Anyone ever have any trouble? mine makes a chocolate pudding like substance in the bottom of the cell. Also after you put in fresh alky it looks like dirty dish water but if you leave it in the plastic fuel jug it stays like new forever.Do you need to coat the tank???
God made cold beer, good friends, hot ladies and race cars don't spit in his face by pi$$ing and moaning about how life sucks!!!

Yes, an Aluminum cell should be coated inside for use w/ alcohol.

I'm assuming your talking meth... as in any alky type fuel it all absorbs water... water and air will cause corrosion... if it didnt get air it wouldnt be a problem... I've done testing with E-85 and again if it didnt see air there was no problem but induce air and it will corrode (the white flaky stuff)... I dont know what you could seal it with... yet

As your finding out, you can't leave it in a aluminum cell. I'll eat the aluminum and you will have to replace the cell. Plastic cells are best for methanol if you ask me.
Must keep methanol sealed from the air when your not running your car, it'll absorb lot's of moisture and that's where the milkly and corrosion comes from.
My alky dragster has a aluminum cell in it and we empty it at the end of each weekend. Every 2 years all the lines and fittings get replaced also because we can't run top lube because of fuel check which helps preserve your fuel system. I have had a nozzle get clogged with white corrosion and torched my head, block and piston. That cost way more than new lines and fittings every couple years. Lot's of upkeep with methanol, lot's of guys will tell you they don't drain the tank each week and they will have trouble some day. I'm not familer with any coatings that I would trust to try and save the cell. Good luck.
Also, it will not stay good forever in a plastic fuel jug, after a few years you will see plastic from the jug in your fuel system. I also replace fuel jugs every 2-3 years and store my methanol in a steel drum in a cool dry place. Seriously the plastic fuel jugs delaminate over time with methanol.
I have been selling it at work for 27 years now.
Hard anodizing helps a lot, I think it's too late to have the cell hard anodized. It's important to use hi quaility hard anodized fittings for methanol, not all fittings are hard anodized.

we found the problem last night,I run a missile drysump pump and the fuel pump is built on to the front of the pressure section of the oil pump.To make a long story short we found a seal that was bad leaking oil into the fuel section of the pump so when it was running it would bypass fuel and oil back into the tank and it made a mud or pudding looking substance. The carb and filter was full of it to.We did a little test with a couple drops of oil into some alky and left it sit for a day and sure as $hit pudding was made.Should be fixed Thanks,Bruce

Glad you found it, had that happen with a cam drive fuel pump years ago, kept getting leaner while oil kept getting milkier, finally had a "Duh" moment and figured it out. A little tidbit for those running alky with an aluminum tank, that have let it sit too long. You can mix a solution of water and vinegar about 3 to 1 ratio and let sit in the tank for several hours or overnight even. Slosh it around occasionally if possible, doesn't have to be full but at least the parts that are starting to corrode should be covered. Can greatly extend the life of an aluminum alky tank if done periodically.
