Got a few questions and requests regarding exhaust options on a 340 Duster. First of all, were "bright tips" even an option on 70 Dusters? I'm thinking not but I'm not entirely sure. If they were, can anyone provide pics of the correct location (distance below and beyond bumper) and hanger mounting? Secondly, with regards to turndowns, can someone privide pics of proper locaitons and proper mounting? I see two possible factory mounting locations for the hangers, one the bottom edge of the rear frame rails and one on the inside edge of the rails. Thanks in advance.

Ive been told they were available buy people that bought the cars new but Ive have also heard they weret available. I cant say for sure as I was born 8 years later, LOL

The hangers bolt to the frame rails, The holse should all ready be there for them, The tips slide in to the hangers. putting them in the correct location automatically.

Not sure about the turn downs.

The '70 Duster 340 didn't get chrome tips not even as an option. If they had chrome tips they would have been dealer or owner installed.

The Duster 340 wasnt available with tips until 1971. The 1970 would have turn-downs

But on the upside all 70 340 Dusters came with disc brakes standard... 71 and up it was an option

I put the tips on my 70 a while ago and the exhaust guy didn't get them in the correct location. I've got a certian member here giving me all kinds of about them (they bug me as well) so I'm gonna fix things and I'm probably going to go with the "correct" turn downs.

I just put some tips on a original 70 340 Duster. It had the original exhaust with the turn down tips. The turn down tips were bolted to the bottom of the frame rail. I bought factory tip exhaust hangers and there is already a slot on the inside side of the frame rail for the tip hangers. You just install a J-nut or U-nut into the frame rail, then add a bolt and your done. Apparently they had plans for tips when these cars were first designed.
I usually like to center the tip on the hanger, but the muffler shop put the tip all the way back onto the hanger and I thought that they stuck out a little too far beyond the bumper.
