I had to cut some access holes in the tub, in order to add some reinforcement behind the hinges. Instead of just using flat plate, I decided to use two pieces of 2" x 2" steel angle, cut 5-1/2" long. In addition to the hinge screws going through one side of the angle, when the tub comes off for body work and painting, I will drill holes and add bolts at the bottom, which will add more strength and support for the hinges. I'll make some sheet metal plates to cover the access openings. Access holes. Steel angle pieces for hinge reinforcement.
