I added the D-ring recovery mounts. These 1" thick mounts go all the way through the bumper, and are welded at the front and back, for maximum strength. That's it for the fabrication. All that's left to do is the final welding. My little Miller 130XP mig isn't quite powerful enough for this task, so I'm going to borrow my buddy's Miller 211 mig. Once the final welding is complete, the plan is to spray a coat or two of industrial grade epoxy primer, and finish with black Monstaliner.

Very nice Dave. I sold my truck and ended up in a JK Door and couldn't be happier.

Finished building the under-tub mount/skid for the RCI fuel cell. Made out of steel angle, and I used 16 gauge aluminum diamond plate on the sides. The bottom is covered with a piece of 1/8" 6061-T6 aluminum plate.

My tailgate had a slight inward curvature to it, and try as I might, I couldn't make it straight. So, I began looking for a replacement tailgate. I figured that if I'm going to the trouble of replacing it, I should do something cool, like replace it with an old school CJ fold down tailgate. After some searching on craigslist, I found a super nice one for $100. Best part was, it was only 20 minutes away from my house. The seller threw in the cable brackets too.

I had to cut some access holes in the tub, in order to add some reinforcement behind the hinges. Instead of just using flat plate, I decided to use two pieces of 2" x 2" steel angle, cut 5-1/2" long. In addition to the hinge screws going through one side of the angle, when the tub comes off for body work and painting, I will drill holes and add bolts at the bottom, which will add more strength and support for the hinges. I'll make some sheet metal plates to cover the access openings.

Access holes.

Steel angle pieces for hinge reinforcement.

The Poison Spyder cage kit came in today. This looks like fun.
I plan to add some additional bracing, tube gussets, and seat mount tubing.

I found this video from the guys on the TV show Truck U, talking about this cage kit.

Summit Racing has a great sale going on right now on Hooker Aero Chamber all stainless steel mufflers. These 2-1/2" mufflers normally run $169.00 each, I paid just $59.50 each!!!!

Well, since I JUST showed a pic of TWO mufflers, that's an indication that I'm going with a full dual exhaust. I had originally started building a two into one system, but the guru at Performance Only felt that the shorty block hugger headers I had would hold back power, and he suggested long tube headers. I then decided to go all the way and build a full dual exhaust. It will be 3" after the collector, and reduces down to 2-1/2" right before the inlet side of the mufflers, and then 2-1/2" tailpipes.

The LED stop, turn and tail lamps came in, along with the LED backup lamps.

With the help of a couple friends and some ratchet straps, I got started on the cage.

Thanks, Rick! The build process is a challenging journey, and I enjoy it. It keeps me out of the bars, and the wife always knows where I'm at, so its all good.
