Like to know if anyone has put the 426 hemi in a 74 Charger, right now it has a 440 between the fenders.
Thanks
Here's a 73 Charger fortified with HEMI power, was featured in HOTROD some time ago

Looks good, but awful tight in there...
Is there anything a HEMI isn't tight in?

It would have to fit...factory offered the Hemi in '71 and the platform is the same thru '74. No way could they change it...Richard was winning races with that car. Petty won more races w/the "coke bottle" Chargers (using a modified 340 small block) than any other set-up he had ever or since used. NASCAR even changed the rules so it could be used an extra year or so...[this info from one of his books]
Didn't '73 see the intro of the isolated K-frame and slightly different inner fenders? So they may have not been designed with the Hemi in mind as '71 was the last MY Hemi. If it fits in a '73, it must fit. But it sure looks from the picture like the valve covers hang over the frame rails. Might make going in from the bottom a bit of a chore.

Absolutely right... No way would a Hemi fit from the bottom. It'll fit between the fenders, but it won't be a simple bolt in like it would be on a 71/72. The inner fenders on 73/74 are different from the 71/72 B-body (and E-body) inner fenders because of the suspension change, as mentioned.
I'm pretty sure the Petty cars didn't have inner fenders. Race cars were converted to have a tube type frame up front.
