I need to change my electric fuel pump.
want to go with a Holley Im told -

the Holley red is 7 -
the blue is 9 rated to 14 with an regulator.

I'm running on the street a 440 -
750 holley dual feed single pump with 4.5 power valve, 516 closed chamber heads, 509 cam, headers, 2 1/2" 'H' pipes -

which is the better pump to use?

I'm running a Holly Black on a 406 with a 750 holly. I've had it for 3 years on this engine and was run on a 440 for at least 5 years before I got it. You may want to look at the Black pumps, very reliable.

I just checked out Holley's site - the black looks like the same output is the blue except it will accept methane/alcohol -
I dont plan on using that -

so I'll go with the blue ---

thanks -

The black pump is a pump you can grow with.

Better yet spring for the self regulated Holley pump with the two outlets.
Holley Performance

The blue does not flow the same as the black as the numbers show on this chart.

Out of four or five red pumps I've had(4 or 5 diff cars) only one of them failed out of the box, due to excessive cosmoline or other crud on regulator plunger. Cleaned it out and never had another problem. As said, you will hear the thing run. I had a newer comp 110 mallory that wimped out a little in the IRP heat and ruined a good light I had cut and cost me a money round.

My son and I both run the Holley red pumps on our mid 11 cars. His has been on the car since 1997 with no problems ever. I run an 850 DP and it feeds my car with no problems. I like it to make a little noise as that way I know its working. Ron

the red is rated lower and does not need a regulator ,its only flowing about 4psi uner load, the blue about 7 under load. if you plan to just use the car for street use then the red is fine unless you might see some strip use id recomend the the blue with the rgulator set at 6.5. i ran a goofree flowing filter also. the mallory comp. 110/140 are also good and affordable iused them on a blown nova sb and had no fuel problems. good luck bob

My blue is audible when I turn on the ignition but when the 390 fires off I can't hear it at all..... I do have a return line so maybe that may be a reason why mine is not so loud........ TBF

thanks guys for your input with this -

I ended up with the blue using the counter person's advice that he uses it.
It was early saturday morning after I had read the first reply that I went out to buy this, I wanted to get up & running to get back on woodward for the cruise.

Now that I have it installed, like some of the others said I too like to hear it running.

I also had debri in my last filter before the carb - I replaced that and flushed cleaned all lines after I noticed I had one older line I changed it out, so now all is new - tank, pump, lines & two screen filters. I still had her act up again that evening with the same thing happening?

I have noticed that in my carb that in the primary the spray is under the venturi tube only on one side - so now I think I need to redo the carb in hope to clean it out???

A couple Questions -
1) Do I need to run an return line?
2) Should I install the safety switch?
3) I have a 20a fuse with a toggle switch,
should I have a relay instead?

.......if so - how would I do the install's?

1) No, you don't have to.
2)Safty switch is ALWAYS a good idea with a elec. pump.
3)20A fuse is more than needed with a holley, if I remember they pull less than 10a. Relay would depend on where you are now pulling power from now. Can that cir. handle the extra load? Also if you are going to run a relay it is still a good idea to fuse it.

thanks rrunner good advice -

will check into the safety switch,
holley says to use a oil pressure type.

my circuit is direct to the fuse block by itself -
the data sheet says its 7a, another post said to use the 20a is why I had it in, will change out to a 10a -
