I currently have 1 7/8 tube fenderwell headers and have been thinking of going to 2 inch. Just wondering if I need them or not and if so would there be any performance gains. These are the Hooker super comps and am running 3 1/2 inch dynomax bullets.
The combo is
440 .030 over stock stroke 11 to 1 comp
MCH fully ported max wedge eddys
270ish bullet solid roller
Indy tunnel ram w/two 750's
4500 converter, 4.56's and 3400 race weight.

Takes more than just a couple of numbers to make that
choice ... if you want PM me and I'll send you some
data to fill out and I can run it through my header
program

I am also running 1 7/8 hooker super comps. 3" collectors. 499 rb 12.5 to 1 comp. 275 solid roller, stage VI heads and intake, 1050 domi. I have thought about this alot also. But is the gain worth the dollars? I guess the big question is, How much gain?

I'm surprise no one ask 4 the weight of the car but sense he mention that it is a streetcar i think that the small tube headers should work fairly well

generally a 1 7/8" with a converted 3 1/2 collector (std is a way too small 3") works better overall (in terms of average torque) than a 2" with an auto when the stall speed is below the torque peak. But you have deep gears so it's probaly not a bad move.

In a lighter car it matters a lot less.4500 stall is about where a 2" pays off but IMO 90% of the gains on a std wedge port size is the larger collector that comes along with it.

Anybody who says you have to have a 2" + primary to go fast should attend a F.A.S.T race
They're going high 9's running manifolds and dual 2 1/2" pipes though full exhaust systems.....though I suspect some may now be running 70mm (2.75" Euro spec) pipes but nobody's caught on cause they look like 2 1/2"

He stated the car weighs #3400

Id use the headers you have with the 4500 stall.

IMO, to make good use of the 2" primary, you would need to complement that with a 5000+ converter. And your "mainly street use" doesn't make me think you will want to. The headers you have will be fine, but I do like the 2" for race applications.

dragram440, with your 499 CID I would even consider 2-1/8" with short primary tubes (32"). Again with 5500 stall.
I love the 2-1/8" x 32 on my 511 CID. I have a 279 at 0.050" cam, 5600 rpm, 3250 lbs. And nobody thinks my combo is short on torque when they see the sixty foot times...
