Quick question: How come there's no talk or much use of the B1 MC's anymore? Do they still make them?

thanks,
Steve

The reason we didn't run the MC's, is because the intake valves need to be Ti. That drove up the price considerably. All Mark really wants is at least 800HP! I think he's going to be happy for sure
Yes they are still being made, and they can make a fair amount more HP than the Original on a large CID engine.

True, but at least we are fortunate to have some that still "carry the torch" here.

Brian, thanks, I never knew you HAD to run Ti valves with the MC's, they do seem to kick it up a notch though...

With a 2.4 valve, it's recommended...highly! It helps ensure no valve floating problems. I run Ti in Originals when we are going past 7800rpm.
I'll post more pics of the work that needs to be done to them, and I'll show rockers, lifters, and whatever else I can throw in there
See, B1's aren't so bad now are they....

Ti is nice(and pricey) but it does have its downsides like unknown life expectancy even with x-raying & it does hammer seats(bronze, etc). But, it does what its supposed to for the time...

Well the big deal with a Titanium valve is the weight..Do you have any idea what a Stainless 2.40 valve for a B1 would weigh. Let's just say it would not be very valvetrain friendly.

Even the 2.300 is heavy in stainless! That's why we'll run good springs coupled with a rpm style lobe to keep everything happy.
Plus we're running a single carb, so 7000rpm will be a great cap to hit, and hopefully we'll have 4-500 rpm after that of slow decent.
I wanted to do an MC head, but cost and the fact that Mark wants reliability over max HP meant using the Original B1. Bryan Sloan wanted to use the MC head too but I have a feeling this combo will work just fine. It's going in a really well prepared chassis.

I hope I was helpfull in my attempt to show how these heads are pretty easy to use and prepare.
Even with small amounts of porting they work really well.
Brian

Thats why I did'nt get them, too. The Ti valves added about $800. to the cost. With a 4.5 bore, i could have used them, but, like you i was'nt looking for max HP either.

Again, great info, thanks!
