I had a great time today at the track! I have been plaged with a string of Red lights this year that has been frustrating, but today I won (3) rounds in Sportsman, and made a good pass in the 4th rd, but lost to an .052 package, no shame there for a newbie like me.
Chris Johnston went to the final in Sportsman in a borrowed Duster (Hey Chris, how'd ya do??), Then just for good measure, also went 5 rounds (I think) in the Non-Electronics class in the Belvedere shown above (another borrowed car). Does this guy have FRIENDS, or WHAT!!?? Nice job today, Chris.
Also had a learning moment along the way. I've never made it a habit to check my dial entered on the board before I stage. Today in the 2nd or 3rd Rd, I burnout and pre-stage... then sit there for like 15 or 20 seconds waiting for the other lane. Its a hot day, and my car is warming, so I'm getting a little peaved, Finally the guy stages and we go about our business. This guy has been at this a lot longer than I have, and basically was raised around the track, so I was real confused that he would make me wait like that. Afterward, he approached me and said "Hey dude, sorry to make you wait, but did you notice that they had your dial wrong?.... I was waiting for the starter to fix your dial"
Needles to say, I felt bad for thinking he was jerking with me. What a heads up, and respectable move on his part! I mean, he coulda just staged and taken advantage of an extra .02. From now on, I'll be checking my dial on the board before staging every round. Many of the old pro's here are probobly thinking: "duh". But, its just not something I'd ever really thought about.
