Hi Folks: I have a 63 dodge 330 that is currently a hemi that is throttled to low tens@133.This winter I am going to put a wedge back in it. The goal is a car that will do lap after lap without having to think about it, and do it on pump gas. I have most of the parts for the short block. 440 block 2 Bolt mains .030 over 6.86 h-beam eagles 4.15 Mopar crank milodon oiling The car Dana with 4.56 and mark williams spool and axles. 727 with a griner valve body 4500 Dynamic stall converter also has a large aluminum radiator The above are not going to change. So, I need help choosing the rest. Remember -- Lap after Lap after Lap and pump gas is the goal. I'm not familiar with the different heads that are currently available for the wedge -- I would prefer aluminum. compression ratio? for aluminum heads and pump gas? Cam? I have a good set of comp cams rollers leftover from a previous hemi build but I might even try hydraulic. intake ? Carb? Thanks Tom

Hi 383man(493man) :-) My car weighs about the same. It ran 11.20's with the 440 with 352 heads and a mopar 590 cam. What intake and carb did you choose? Thanks Tom
On my old 906 headed 440 that dipped in the 11.40's I had the MP .557 cam and used the Holley Street Dominator intake with an 850 DP. Ron

I have a pump gas street Duster with a 518 C.I. low deck(400 block) stroker that runs in the low tens, it curently has a set of Indy SR heads with Max Wedge ports, T&D single shaft 1.65 ratio rocker assembly and the Indy 400-2 intake using a Holley 4781-7 850 D.P. The cam is a Comp Cams custom grind(not ground for this motor )soild roller with 260 @.050 on the intake and 266 @ .050 on the exhaust, right at .700 net lift at the tool steel retainers I did use a set of Comp Cams endurance roller springs on these this time The headers are a set of Hedmans for the Indy heads in a A body, two inch primarys and 3.5 collectors, three inch exhaust to the rear bumper through a set of Magnaflow 3x14 oval muffs mounted at the rear bumper. The car weighs 3450 lbs with me in it full of pump gas, stock 14 gallon tank, the rear suspension is a ladder bar with coil overs and M/T ET Street bias or ET Sreet Radials, DOT legal street tires. The motor has right at 10.8 to 1 comp. ratio with theses heads, 76.0 CC I have changed intakes and carbs to a bigger one and the car pickup a bunch, but my car is not legal to run in the nines so I'm putting the old intake and carb back on it and I'll finish tuning that carb., it is way to fat with stock jetting according to my wide ban, it is in the low 11.3 AFR readings at WOT Lots of ways to make power, have fun

i don't think you will have to try too hard to make good reliable power.your gearing may be a little high leading to a too many rpm and hence some reduction in reliability and life span. i built my motor in april 2008replaced the iron heads about 6 months later, pocket ported stealth this is a stock stroke 440+0.055, 10.8 comp, purple 509 cam, dynamic 9 1/2 into a dana with 4.1 gears now,had 3.9 plenty of runs all i do is change the oil and occasionally the plugs i drive this car every day to work even done a couple of interstate runs to race,650mile each way.aluminium radiator, clutch fan and 12" electric pusher fan never sees over 200 at about 3764,68 Satellite, with me in it has run 11.18's at 118.95/119.00.this is shifted at 6000 traps at 6300.ran 11.30's with the 3.9 gear into the high 117 low 118mph i am now looking to fit a solid cam to run 11 flat,as that is my bracket and safety cut off. good luck, Tex

Hi Cab: How many runs would you put on this engine before teardown? Thanks Tom
Based on past expereinces with breaking two Mopar brand roller lifter wheels (I use Crowers now in less than 100 runs and 45 or so street miles I would take a look at the lifters at 100 runs. I do use a leak down meter to monitor the rest of the engine as well as cutting the oil filter apart and looking very closely at all parts of the filter element This is a limited street and strip car, central Oregon is to cold to drive a car like mine from mid to late October(first snow) to mid to late March, they use all kinds of stuff on the roads here for the ice and snow As far as total runs until teardown probally 200 to 400, depnding on how the motor does, I rev this one higher than any other ones I raced in the past This motor is pretty much new territory for me, it is the first street and strip stroker motor that I built for me and the first pump gas motor that made over 600 hp and then the first pump gas motor to make over 700 HP, just by changing the heads, a little stroke(.050 more ) and revving it up a little higher The lobes of the cam and the valve spring pressures have a lot to do with how long parts live, like lifters, valve job, pushrod tips, roller rockers and so on. Stouter is way better than weaker when it comes to valve spring pressures on solid roller cams
