Who sells good, true running, OEM style steel, driveshafts. My drive shaft has .025 runnout along the entire shaft. It is straight, but has linear runnout. I get a lot of vibration at 60 mph and as the speed goes up, the vibration goes up. It is a 1971 Challenger 340, auto. Manual says 45.60 long.
Thanks.

I would think that little runout could be balanced out, no?

I tried the the two hose clamp trick with no success. I also had it ballanced years ago, but they just put a small weight on the front, with no improvement. If you think about it, I would think that .025 runnout on the entire length of the shaft is a lot of weight.

Have you checked pinion angle?

There was a thread about this at one point , there is a comnpany that does them for Fords I think , they were thinking of doing them for GM but ? I have a few shafts Don , I might have one that length , I'll check this afternoon when I get home.

Otherwise it a straight tube shaft , with new joints , who are you taking the shaft to to have it check ? I use North Shore Axle in North Reading , across from Kitty's ....

I'd check the bushing in the back of the trans...

The local driveline and hydralic place built me nice aluminum one a few years ago. I would go to a local place and have it checked or repaired.

Thanks John. I checked it myself with a dail indicator installed. My yoke measures 1.680 dia. and my new tail shaft bushing installed measures 1.688. why is the clearance so large?

I've never compared the 2 but I have some at home I can measure , there needs to be some clearance , not sure how much though.

Sounds like your yoke is worn out. imo

I measured the yoke and it is uniform 1.680 the entire length. I also mounted the shaft 180 degrees on the diff. pinion, and it showed the same high and low spots on the same place in the shaft. I still don't like that .008 clearance between the yoke and bushing.
