Is there any way I can use a stock timing cover and run a hydraulic roller on my 383? I want to use roller lifters but I also want the stock look. Any mods for successful use of a cam button?

I didnt use the stock cover when I put a solid roller in my BB, because the endplay on the cam button was speced at .0005-.001 and I didn't see how a flexing sheet metal cover could maintain this precision. I'm using 440 sources alum cover.

Take care,

Weld a plate or a thick washer to the timing cover, and then grind the plate or washer to the proper thickness so that it butts up against the back of the water pump.

A little time consuming but has worked great for me, and is dirt cheap.

Thanks! Sounds exactly like what I was looking for!

You might want to recheck those specs !!! .005 - .010 is more like it.
