What are you guys running for alternator amperage and voltage regulators with the electronic ignitions? I'm interested mostly in 1969 and earlier applications.
Now I need to pin those needles, got to feel that heat Hear my motor screamin while I'm tearin up the street

70's square back 2 field terminal alt/flat '70 up reg w the side flats trimmed so it'll nestle neatly in the squarish firewall recess. As far as OE stuff it charges pretty good (ex idle) & only takes 1 extra wire (green)

As long as your charging system can maintain battery voltage enough to fire the ignition it doesn't matter what you use. In fact a charging system is not even required for short term usage if a good battery is used.

Yeah, I was hoping to run a stock amperage alternator or maybe a 60 amp unit with the regular regulator. I ran a 60 amp unit with a regular electronic replacement regulator for a few years with no problem. No discharge at idle, no dim headlights. When I switched to the electronic ignition I change the regulator to the mopar performance blue one that provides a constant 13.5V. I burned up some wires very shortly after. I went to the parts store and they had a regulator that looked identical to the MP constant 13.5V but it wasnt blue, and it said not to use it with a 60 amp alternator. Right now I'm trying to find another electronic replacement regulator for my 60 amp alternator. The ones i'm finding all say to use them with a 35 or 45 amp unit, but not 60. Any input there? I'm not the best with charging systems, I would think it shouldn't matter. But I saw the other ones listed to not use with a 60 amp and now I'm unsure.

the more amperage output, the better. Amperes are not sourced by alt, if car demands doesn't require it. You can even have 200 amps if you want but if car sucks just 50, alt will source just 50.
You actually maybe have a 500 or more amps batt, and you don't burn anything with that... why? because thats not demanded by the car

We insatalled a complete MSD digital in my sons 62 300 about 10 years ago.It was an MP conversion we did before that.Just changed the reg to a new electronic one.Still had the 62 alt.Cherges fine and he runs a big stereo.Unless you have a ton of elec stuff thats all thats needed.That and the reg just hooks up like the stock points one.We always run the biggest batt we can out in.Mine is 900 CCA his is 1000.Rocky

I don't know the deal on single field regulator capacity but it sounds like a good reason to go ahead and upgrade to a dual field if you want to run 60 amps. There is a wiring diagram in the archives; its very straight forward with a regulator connector from the parts store and a few feet of 16 or 14 guage wire. Solder and heat shrink the connections/splices and you are good to go.
