I've basically made the decision that this is the way I want to go. I've heard of real nice numbers from a full-boogie SR head with the max wedge opening.
Does anyone have flow numbers for a fully ported or preferably CNC ported Indy SR head?

Just got a quote from Scotty B a couple days ago for my 517, Non Max wedge window, don't know the CC's (Hope he won't mind)
From: ScottBrown
Got a set of standard window CNC'd SR's on the shelf for your low deck, they go 313 @ .500, 336 @ .600 and 344 @ .700
I have a set of CNC'd MW BD's that go similar #'s. The Indy Exhaust side is much better, but nothing that can't be worked around with some camshaft know how....
Scott
I'd want to see the .300-.400#'s too, I think the Dawgs might be a bit better in the middle.

Thanks.. I'll check my mag. Don. I guess Scottys CNC'd SR's have 84cc chambers. Trying to science it out for 11:1 with a .030 over 400 block.
I'd like to see 350+ at about .650 or so with maybe 270 at the .400 number.

Sounds like a good plan Un.......did you consider any other heads though?

Sounds like a good plan! I had the same thing in mind when I went with the 400, but it'll probably be a long time before it happens.

Gary - I thought they all came with 75cc chambers?? As for the flow numbers, I have heard 360 is a realistic number from a MW port job, but 370 may be possible in the right hands. I bought my heads used and already ported to MW opening. No flow numbers though.
Still going for the pump gas, huh.

Wes, I'm looking for a real simple fit as far as headers go, something thats proven, and I'm not real impressed just yet on the numbers the Bulldogs put out. They have about 6 months to impress me though. A low deck with my headers would fit like a glove in my car. So far, the worked SR's seem to fit the bill the best.
500 cubes, full boogie SR's, around 11:1 squeeze on pump gas. You know, a low-low 10 second ride on pump gas in a 3650 lb. package. Maybe spray it into the low to mid 9's and make some waves at next years HotRod pump gas shoot-out...
Don, you'd be welcome to borrow this motor and go 9.50 or so in your car if you'd like!

I was thinking pump gas drags as I was reading the post I really thought there'd be faster cars there, like some 8 second ones. High 9s put ya right up there. I was considering the bulldogs also, but went with eheads, little cheaper and good enough. Are indy sr's 84cc's? That'd be perfect as I want to keep mine at 11 to 1 and upgrade heads donw the road only. I think ya should just build it now... then I'll know what kind of potential I'll have down the road

Joe, the SR's chambers come out to 84cc AFTER the CNC work. 75 as delivered.
Those Pump Gas drags are still darned impressive considering the cars have to drive 30 miles one way, race and return 30 miles on the supplied gas.

At 500CI, I think that's going to need a dished piston if you want to keep compression down.

You could be right Rich.. It comes in at 11.4:1 with 84cc's and a flat top with 4cc valve reliefs. With the shorter Chevy rod and piston top prep, it could be done though. Quench will be right too..
If the chambers are set to 80cc's after a few passes on the mill and I go with a 12.5 cc dish piston, its right at the 11:1 number which might be safer.

With a flat top I'm coming up with 11.8:1 with 4.375x4.15, zero deck, 84ccs and .040 gasket. 80ccs makes it 12.3:1... Is that the bore and stroke you had in mind Gary? It would seem like kind of a shame to have low compression when 12:1 is so easy to get with a flat top, but wanting to stick with pump gas is sure understandable.
