as the Cuda project nears the end, i want to start my research for the next project, blown 426 gen 3 hemi for the challenger
i have been eyeing BDS and the stuff they have for bolting on a blower. is BDS any good? should i go 6-71 or 8-71? should my crank have 2 key ways? can a machine shop cut a crank for another key? tell me what else i need to know

Being that its a street cruiser you dont care about the low compression till you put the blower on...I have a 8-71 that I was going to put on the Rampage but its sort of a PITA to look around on the street(JMO)

Stay as far away as you can from BDS , Hampton, Weiand, Littlefield and a bunch of others are a lot better From personel experiences on three BDS street and strip blowers As far as the size I wouuld look at a 8:71 or even a 10:71, if it will fit, the bigger blower will make more pressure at a lower RPM, you won't have to spin the blower real fast to make boost in other words 7 lbs at 150 F at 3000 RPM is way better than 10 lbs at 190 F at 3000 RPM The faster you spin a roots type blower the more heat it will make, added heat makes detonation under boost There are coolers that can placed between the blower and the intake but most of them restrict the air flow and end up making less power at the same boost, a big interference in the middle IHTHs

I have had good luck with Craig at BDS on three seperate blowers. 1-was a 6-71, an 8-71, and lastly a 10-71, and none gave us any issues. I also purchased my FAST efi thru them way back when and they were great at supporting it. Can you be more specific about what was wrong with them?
Also to 6packgut, the modman intakes will support roots blowers, but I would look at a whipple and mount it on one of those intakes. Less heat, more boost, and just sick instant torque. They have one that is a direct replacement for a 6-71, but it might make a little too much boost for street. Also, there are you tube vids by a company that has been putting BDS blowers on these new Hemis and making 900hp on pump gas CMN motorsports I think...

oh snap. i like that!!
thanks for the link
holy crap, the prices
Happy Belated Birthday Ray...
I saw those prices too!!..
I have a small roots type blower, Weiand, on my SB chevy...its a good street blower but makes a lot of heat...if its a wow factor that you are looking for, then all means go for that chunk sticking out of the hood...if not then a centrifugal type like a pro-charger with an inter cooler would be a great way to go...also have you thought about Turbos?

thanks. your not belated. i'm 41 today
my friend in alabama wants to do twin turbos with the new holley management system. but it is more for the wow factor. the whole reason i built a guard rail car was to stop taking the challenger to the track. so 1000 hp isnt a priority but i guess it would be fun

I edited my first post, I was not clear The first BDS blower leaked grease from the front seals, twice the second one siezed up on the dyno and he redid it saying it was a brand new blower when he brought it back I could see damage to the case and rotors when mounting the injector hat, it lost 5 lbs of boost in 15 minutes of operating it on the dyno while he was trying to dial in the EFI mapping I was pulled off of the project after that and the motor ended up with a Littlefiled 10:71 and ]Motech EFI No problems with Littlefields blowers I put another Littlefield 10:71 on a street and strip 426 hemi two years later and had absolutely zero issues That motor made 925 HP at 7300 RPM with 7 lbs. boost on CA pump gas
