Also, which will make more power? Kind of curious on the differences between the two engines.

w8 heads have more meat, just more to work with when making all out heads, w9 are lightweight castings
I guess w8 s make more power if you know what you are doing

w8's are more exotic $ there basicly chunks of aluminum that resemble heads..make more power yes in the right hands,,w9 just an awesome head...cheaper,lighter and will make power..w8 is awesome,but requires good amount of work

Correct....

You can score a Craftman Truck head ready to go, but it will not have the capability of say a CFE 10* deal.

We have a Coleman/Arrington 15* that makes nice power, but the heads that we're sending to CFE for a future build are so raw, there isn't even a spark plug hole.

The 8s have more meat than a 9 and I doubt a killer program for an 8 can be applyed to a 9......but I'm not positve about that.

A W-8 needs a ton of work to make them a usable head
in most cases but has more potential flow over a W-9...
a W-9 is a combination of a W-7 and W-8 but in a light
weight version... a maxed out W-9 will flow right at
365 @ .700(thats what both sets I have did)... 1 set
was CNC ported and the other was hand ported by Ryan...
W-9 is much easier to come by now days

ryan did my w9's. flowed 359.6 @ 700. 48* r3, 440 sb. pump gas. 9.65@137.53. street driven often.

I had w-9's on my short block before I put the pro stock truck w-8's on.My 9's only flowed 357@900 and the 8's flow well over 400@900 and the car only runs a tenth faster. Flow numbers don't mean as much as what people make them out to.About the only major difference is w-9's don't take a special valve cover.

The W8 just have alot more meat to work with.I think you could make a honest 900 hp with a really good set of W9
s in the right hands.The W8 stuff is also very hard to come by and if you do find some usually will cost you a bundle.But hands down The W8 will make some killer power.Foltz at CFE still says it is the best small block wedge head out there..

i agree 100% my indy's flowed 323@700 lift and my car is mid 9'r

The motor is at Uratchko's.He's done some head work and intake work,had the cam reground.changed the rockers,I cracked the Mohawk rockers,they were flexing way to much and killing my lift.so we had to go another route there.

He's just messing with it when he has the time.I had to take a break from it for awhile.The car is ready to go to Holts to 25.5 it also...
