Sorry if this has been asked before but changing the ingnition switch and I cant get past this. How the bleep bleep to you get this off? Special tool? Thanks for any replies.

That is what it looks like to me too. You can remove the C-clip with a flathead and pliers, but it's a pain, and the clip can go a flyin and you may need to re-use it. I don't know about earlier columns, but if it is like the one in my 80's Gran Fury be careful with the bearings. On my GF those bearings are not encased in anything, and if you don't keep the shaft pulled up it will drop a tiny bit and the bearings will start falling out, and are impossible to get back in. Unfortunately, all the bad things that I mentioned can happen happened to me. Live and learn.

I had to pry on my column quit a bit to get it to come apart. I figure the two halves of yours are just stuck together like mine were. I didn't think of it at the time; but some penetrating oil applied where the collars meet may free them up.
*EDIT* I didn't make it clear that you have to separate the collars before the column will come completely apart.
P.S. - Once you have the collars apart, take some fine grit sand paper and sand the surfaces of the collars where they meet. Just enough for some extra clearance.

I only had one clip in my column. I got down as far as the bearings and stopped there. I was going to replace my ignition but once I lost the bearings I stopped at that point.
Facts are stubborn things.
