Finally ready to sit the motor in the car, and this is my first go around with aluminum heads. I had to cut my intake .100 so I was a little concerned about lifting from the carb.

What is the the best way to lift? Carb plate? Accessory holes in the head?

I use 3/8 bolts on the end of both heads and a 3/8 chain with my engine leveler, or the same chain using longer bolts into the end intake manifold bolt holes Both ways work fine, the bolts on the end of the heads can be a pain to remove if your installing the motor into the car

Doug, I will be lucky to make a few events at Bowling Green. My wife is having back surgery in late September so dad and I worked hard last weekend to get the engine together to try and get it in the car this weekend. Are you looking at coming to BG anytime between now and the end of the year?

I talked with Dwayne last week and he brought up your motor in taking about mine. He has mentioned to me a couple of times how well he thinks your combo works.

So I shouldn't have any issues using the carb plate?

The carb plate works just fine for most cast single 4bbl intakes.

I did make some brackets that bolt to the exhaust side of the heads for lifting engines with cross ram or tunnel ram intakes.

^^^^^That's sweet Andy....I modified a carb plate, removed the top section of my tunnel ram and mounted it to the center and it worked awesome also

I keep an old cast 400 intake around for when I had to take the engine out when I ran the tunnel ram, but with the stage VI's that kinda kills the option to use it now. Like I said I was kinda concerned with the 440-3 because I had to cut so much of the meat out of the mounting face.

I may try to fab up something that looks like what Andy posted, as it looks fairly straight forward. Do you see problems with that setup if I simply bolted it to my exhaust studs?

I use a engine leveler always... I made mine with
4 chains and use the front and back of the heads

You don't need to fab those plates, just call Mancini Racing. They have them now as a regular item. Part number AR252. I think they sell for about $25 a pair.
