on the average ladderbar rear, how much adjustment should a diagonal link bar have when it comes to adjusting the housing side to side? thanks in advance !

Leave yourself about 3 threads showing with the lock
nut on(thats after you center the housing to measure
for the diagonal link)... must likely you wont ever
move it once centered

thanks mr. pbody. thats about what i was thinking. the rear is centered to about 1/16th now, and the brackets are attached to the driverside front bar bracket[5/8 bolt] and the pass side rear lower bracket[1/2 bolt]. i'm using 7/8 dom mild steel and 5/8 heims. maybe a little overkill, but i would rather be safe than sorry. i hate to fix broken stuff......

Is this a street car also... if so you might want
to put a gusset from just above the lower mount point
(where the ladder bar and the diagonal link mount)
to the axle housing... this will take the flex out
of it and save it from cracking the bracket

the gussett sounds like a good idea. i had planned a 3/4 or so[1/8 wall] tube from the housing tube to the ladderbar brackets on both sides to eliminate flexing the brackets on the rear housing. are you sugesting adding a gussett to the diagonal link bracket ? i forgot to mention, i fabbed the diagonal link brackets from 1 1/2 x 3 x 1/4 wall tube, so they should be strong enough.

Your diagonal link bracket is a U that uses the lower
ladder bar mounting hole... if you use tubing from
the lower area to the housing thats fine... just
anything to stiffen the bracket on cornering loads

Improving the rear diagonal link bracket is a good idea.
I had the one on my car crack/break a few years ago. I don't know how many years the previous owner used it. But I was lucky. I had the car on the trailer towing back from a race. When I stopped for gas, I noticed the rear part of diagonal bar was laying on the trailer, the little "U" shaped bracket broke off. The main ladder bar bracket was solid.
