What is the general rule of thumb for max lobe lift in a 59 deg 340 Resto block without uncovering the oil galleries? Running Comp 8043-16 roller lifters.....

I understand this was one of the features designed into the 8043 lifter but, nobody is
going to be able to give an absolute number. I've heard .430" lobe lift but, with the
way the 59º oil galleys are machined, it's too unreliable to guess.

Bushing the block is still the best way to approach it...............except a 48º block.

I was mainly looking at the possibility of around the .390" - .400" region without bushing the bores.

You will obviously want to check it while priming the engine but, .400" lobe should work with the 8043.

How about tubing the block?

Are you thinking tubing the block and using a different style lifter as the 8043 lifter requires pressure fed oil to feed the axles and for pushrod oiling......

I always thought you had to bush the lifter bores to pushrod oil?

I have a tubed block and , while the axles will not get pressured oil, they will still work - just like the 828 lifters without the oil holes

no you can tube the block, bush the block or leave it - you will have to drill holes in the tubes / bushings to pushrod oil.
