Jeff Martin Hurst

Hurst, Jeff Martin, 52, of Fairborn, OH., passed away on Monday, July 25, 2011. Jeff was born October 1, 1958 to Fred and Brenda (Schell) Hurst in Xenia, OH. Jeff was a journeyman wireman and proud member of IBEW Local 82 since 1978, and a member of NHRA. He was a graduate of Wayne High School, Class of 1976. Jeff is survived by his wife of 30 years, Leslie (Sloan) Hurst, daughter Jennifer Hurst, son Brian Hurst, grandson Travis Jeffrey Butts. He is also survived by his parents , his brother Steve Hurst (Sharon) of Nashville, TN., uncle John (Judith) Schell of Bonsall, CA., mother-in-law Alice Fay Taylor, father-in-law Leon Sloan, brother-in-law Kenny (Amy) Sloan of Centerville, OH., nieces Sarah and Katie Sloan and Stephanie Hurst, nephews Christopher Sloan and Michael Hurst. Jeff loved drag racing and his family. He battled cancer for six long years. He was preceded in death by his grandparents John Schell, Wynona and Emmett Jenkins and great aunt Dorothe Long. Jeff is also survived by special friends Evan Kirk, Jim Butts, Greg and Donna Sanford, Chris and Charli Wheatcraft, Bill Burlile, Cathy Matheny, Doug Sherman and Tim Ferrell. Jeff was a loving husband, father, grandfather, son and brother. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him. The family would like to thank Dr. Donald Turner and the staff at Northeast Family Practice for all of their wonderful care of Jeff. Funeral services will be held 11 AM Friday at TOBIAS FUNERAL HOME, BEAVERCREEK CHAPEL, 3970 Dayton-Xenia Rd. at Grange Hall Rd. Pastor Tim Walden officiating. Interment Byron Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 4-8 PM Thursday. Contributions may be made to Hospice of Dayton. Online condolences may be sent to www.dignitymemorial.com.

As a fellow racer and IBEW Local 58 Member here in Detroit, we talk many times about life as an Electrician/Racer. He will be missed & remembered as my co-pilot this weekend..Thoughts and prayers always.
