My dad has a Muncie 4-speed tranny that I was wondering if it would work in my Charger? It was a factory 4-speed car. I haven't looked for a mopar 4-speed yet, but have access to this one if it will work. Thanks for the replies!!!

feasibly you can make anything work.

But in this case the fitment issues aren't worth it. 833's are a dime a dozen-esp the 23 spline variety. Just get the right stuff.

Probably ct more to buy or fab up something to make it work...the correct Mopar tranny would most likely be cheaper in the long run anyways since it actually fits.

If you were installing an Overdrive transmission, it would be understandable, but the Muncie isn't as strong as an 833, plus you'll have no issues installing the Chrysler box........

Quicktime bellhousing #RM-6079 would take care of the bellhousing issue but you would still have to make a trans mount, drive shaft modification(new one since existing is too short for muncie), speedo cable and shifter location. But like everybody said, it's not worth it since any non-overdrive A833 is stronger than any Muncie and bolts right in.

The Muncie is weak in comparison to the New Process 833.

It would seriously devaluate your Charger too.

As said, used 833's are not expensive. What is expensive is the non-muscle era gears, meaning mid-70's and into the 80's. Get an 833 that is a 68-70, repro gears are cheaper than NOS.

I just rebuilt a 73 A-body trans and went through all that cost myself.

The 833 is very easy to build too. You just need good snap-ring pliers and a home-made countershaft arbor for loading the countershaft.

Forget the Muncie, Chevy racers did and they used to convert to the 833 before getting away from manual trannys altogether.

the input shaft on the muncie is too short to adapt to a mopar bellhousing. i know there are aftermarket small block mopar bellhousings for borg-warner/muncie trannys. do the 833 and save a headache.

I had many Muncies in Chevelles I built when I was young.
I could pull those transmissions with my eyes closed.

If you know what I mean...

Run away from your Dad's tranny, and don't look back!!!!!!!!!

Keep that aluminum case junk out of there. Go with the 833

It'll last until about the third time you really pull 2nd gear, then the cluster gear will explode.

Trust me, I used to be able to pull the Muncie out of my '64 Chevelle in 30 minutes in my Mom's front yard.

Yes, a Muncie can be installed in your Charger.

Many years ago, when 69 Chargers were much cheaper, there was a 4 speed Charger advertised in the local newspaper. I went and looked at it. It had a Muncie transmission in it. The car's owner lied about several things, and I was real suspicious he was covering up other stuff. I did not buy the car primarily due to the fact that I didn't trust the seller.

Unfortunately, I can't recall the details on exactly HOW he installed the Muncie, but yes it can be done!

Sell the Muncie to a collector and buy an A-833, it'll be so much easier. If you are lucky the Muncie will be numbers-correct for someone and that jacks the value up greatly.
