Recently I decided to attend a good payout race even tho the temp was projected to be 102 at 5pm. In getting ready for the heat I installed a fan in my car but it felt like it was just blowing hot air. I started researching cool vests/shirts etc and found a system that you dunk in ice water and it is supposed to keep you cool for a few hours. I found one system advertised on a site called "riders needs". I couldn't get one in time so I thought I would ck out the local Harley shop. Sure enough they had the same system but with the Harley logo on it and naturally it cost twice as much as the plain one.

It so happened I could not attend the race because of family issues and have not had the chance to ck this thing out. Have any of you used such a cool vest and what was the result????

A couple of my friends use those at the track and say they help.

They also feel wet and uncomfortable.

I just wonder how they would work if you are sitting in a car in staging - no air blowing over them.

I have one of these and they do work just hard to put on and take off between rounds.

Comes with cooler you add ice and water the hose is several feet long I can stand outside car and can still run unit.

I'm sure that is really nice. Previously I would roll up ice in a big bandana and wrap it around my neck. It definitely helped. I will report back after I have used it. If it helps at all it's worth it.

At most welding supply stores you can buy something like a bandana that you soak in water and put it in the cooler to wrap around your neck. I got one a couple of weeks ago & took it one time and forgot to put it on,next time I put it in the freezer overnight and forgot to take it to the race next day.

Hat, towels, sunscreen and LOT and LOTS of water! Not much I can do inside the car.

Pic is of me after the race I won in Budds Creek, MD 2 weeks ago. It was in the 90's both days. It's gonna be 99-100 in Jackson, SC this weekend!

For my car, I bought a 2' tall floor fan (I like to call it a "barrel fan") that I put in front of the car while I'm cooling it off between rounds with a garden sprayer and charging the battery. Had to switch from my usual 1000w generator to an 1850w.

Hey, shade is shade, even if it's behind the Port-a-Johns!

My home track , Island Dragway as well as E Town and Maple Grove canceled all racing for today because of the extreme heat.

If the humidity is low Koolties work great: http://kooltie.com/kooltie_prints.html

If the humidity is high, they're worthless...

We had to contend with the heat for Saturdays race too. We decided to move the start time to 5:00 and that helped but it was still miserably hot. Made me sick and that was a joy trying to race like that and to be honest I still don't feel right.

I put a fan in mine this year too and I should have just saved my time. 100+_ degree hot air blowing on you doesn't help a bit.

On Race day eat a good breakfast and try and stay away from the food the rest of the day. If you must eat,eat very little. When you are not in the car have a bottle of water in your hand at all times. Drink as much water as you can, stay away from the sodas and alcohol(that's a no-no driving are crewing on the race-car) is the worst thing you can drink while being out in the heat all day. Get out in heat as soon as you get to the track and stay out in it. It's OK to get in the shade and take a break, but don't hop in & out of the truck are other places with A/C to cool off. That only makes it worse when you get back out in the "HEAT".
