Boot OP enthusiast Joined: Aug 2007 Posts: 228 Myrtle Beach	Basically a stock 360 with an RV cam for torque. Right now it's a 2bbl Holley, running rich, and cant be leaned out. I got my hands on a Weiand high rise 4 bbl manifold, and wondered would I be better off going with a Edelbrock 1406, or a Holley 600? I've heard conflicting views, most people say if I go with the Edelbrock, it wont run right with the Weiand, I'd need a Performer manifold. Suggestions are appreciated. Neil The Doctor is in. Joined: Jan 2003 Posts: 20,649 Eagle, Idaho	I like edelbrocks mostly because I am familiar with them. They work great on a mild street type engine and are easy to tune. I would buy the newer 650 avs rather than the standard 600.

Was on a 305 T/A. I was told it was a 390. I hate Holleys! Give me a TQ anytime! I would like to sell this carb. To add, the Edelbrock 600 is a great little carb geared more for fuel economy, while the 600 Holley is more of a performance carburetor. I have always had Holleys on everything except my old SuperBee. I service all my Holleys but am cofused just looking at the AV carbs. I will tell ya this tho, I had a guy around here fix the AV carb on the Bee and it was impressive afterwards. I just dont like messing with them. If you can work one either of them, stick with it... 76' Volare, 5.9 magnum w/Iron heads. New best 10.68 at 123 mph 1/4 mile.

440newport master Joined: Jan 2003 Posts: 4,588 St. John's Newfoundland	I would run a Holley on a driver simply because the fuel tends to boil out of Eddy's and be hard starting in the summer heat, at least the one on my 307 Olds always did. Never had a problem with a Holley other than a stuck needle and seat.

Both once you get to know the carb are easy to tune. Holley's have a lot smore performace parts avaible and more people imo seem to be running them so it easier to get someone to give you a hand or advice. The only 1 draw back i can think of for each carb. Holley's if they get a piece or dirt in them. The go to hell fast lol. Not a big deal but the dirt loves to get into the needle and seat on holley's The eddies problem is boiling out the gase from having the boil located on the body and laying on the intake. happened to me everyday over 90 degrees outside. either carb will work out fine for you. I have been involved with a number of guys that got the Edlebrocks and not 1 of them worked right out of the box had to buy there tuneing kit to get them to run correctly I will never own one holley all the way for me. 70 duster full chassis super pro 416 CNC Indybrock heads 727 w/brake best so far 1.212 60 6.219 in 1/8 at 110.88 9.768 at 137.81 1/4

Joined: Jan 2003 Posts: 20,649 Eagle, Idaho	Edelbrocks are messed up out of the box and I think that part of their bad reputation arrises from guys who don't set them up properly. It's a pain to have to take a new carb apart and 'fix' it, but it needs to be done. You can turn the screws until your hand falls off, but it won't matter if the float settings are out to lunch. I own the carter strip kit, but rarely need to do more than a jet and/or rod change with a new carburetor at this elevation (2800 ft). It just depends on where you live.

I dont know a thing about dialing in a carb, and I dont really have a dependable mechanic, since I'm used to doing all my own work. Transmissions and carbs are the things I know nothing about. At least the edelbrock comes with a cd, maybe I'll need to start looking up how to dial a carb in. 47 chopped Plymouth Sedan 340/727

Its amazing how the A/F ratio can change with the weather temperture etc. At idle I'm running between 14.6 and 15 on most days. Normal driving is around 14.2 to 14.7. WOT is between 13.2 and 14.5. I run two Carter competition carbs, getting them adjusted was time consuming but worth it. I like Holleys too, but mostly on built engines with radical cams.
