I dont have any pictures but that is the way I ran it on my old 68 Valiant. I ran 3 1/2 inch with bullets and turn outs right in front of the tires. I have another 68 I am working on right now and it will be done the same way except with Turbo mufflers so I can street it. Paint the exhaust flat black and it will blend in with the body.

Hate 'em, car gets hot....Like real hot. Better have some good insulation on the firewall.

I was thinking about painting the exhaust flat black, i was hoping to see a pic like that to see what it would look like. the exhaust tubing is alumicoted<sp? , do i need to get that off to paint it?

about the heat, i cant see why it would be any different than exhaust right under the car but i did plan to add some insulation near the exhaust

My dumb ass can`t figure out the picture posting thing but mine are similar to yours w/the bullets dumping before the tires which I hate in case my motor pukes it`s guts which could get ugly. If you look closely at my photo you`ll see em.

My old exhaust looked similar. I am in the process of going to 3.5" all the way also. Using Magnaflow race mufflers. Only I'm using stainless the whole way. Will dump it out in front of the tires. I'd love to take it to the back bumper, but that would be nearly impossible. Not too much you can do with big tubing.

I had mine( 3 inch pipes) ran to the rear of the car, the pipes go UNDER the rear end housing (no room to go over the rear end housing because of the coil overs and stock A body gas tank ) and the muffs are mounted between the rear sub frames and rear fenders. The tail pipes from the mufflers are about six inches long bent at a 45 degree down angle, thier mounted so the mufflers exit at the rear bumper, no noise under the car Noise is good at part throttle in the car, everyone that has heard it on the street and at the races says that it sounds really good, mellow and so on The muffs are a set of Magnaflow 3 x 14 inch ovals, side entrance center exit straight through I gained .04 ET and .25 MPH by dropping the entire system off of the car at the local 1/8 track, probally due to the weight loss, not back pressure (I switch headers several years ago from a set of Hooker A body 2 inch primarys fenderwells to a set of Hedman 2 inch primary fenderwells coated black for the Indy heads, not silver like the Hookers are in this picture ) This pcture is before changing the headers so you can't see what I'm talking about, the black coating hides the pipes from most people and also hides the ladder bars You might want to think of using the oval pipes from the headers back to the muffs instead of the round pipes I'm thinking of switching from the 3 inch system to a 3.5 inch system(Spintech makes the pipes and reducers ) and going to the oval pipes at the same time

that looks good. looks like yours tucks up there better than mine does. i like the look of the turn outs but was also thinking about a straight pipe that i could put those cone baffles in it to quiet it down

Mine were 3.5 pipe to bullits and turndowns pointed under the car.
Picked up .15 and almost four MPH building my own headers.

Here's my junk
Easy removal with 1 band clamp and 1 bolt through the frame connector.
Don't tuck up as nice because I used the Dymomax Ultra Flow 6" round by 16" long cans with 3 1/2 inlet & outlet.
Used a 18" slip on collector then the muffs after that about 2' of pipe with some 3 1/2" turndowns after the muffs.

I personally like the sound over the bullets (loud) The turndowns also aided in quieting the exhaust.

i have headmans because i think they are better than the proparts. shorter pri length, collector starts in the wheel well and is actually, maybe 16" long as is

Roadhazzard, i have the same muffs and was thinking about putting my muffs in the same spot as yours because i could tuck them up better but some have said it would be quieter the further back i put them. how load is your car?

Engine shot of the low deck stroker with the SR heads, I had to raise the front of the motor up some( 1 inch to maybe 1.5 inches) to clear the headers off of the fenderwells with the low deck block Motor is moved back about 1 inch from stock A body location so that may be part of the fenderwell clearances with the low deck blocks

Hedman coated the headers, they are black Local shop did the pipes and mufflers, black also. Stealth mode, you know Thanks for the compliment on the stripes, it does help it some

Which Headers are those? I have proparts for my Cuda, but was thinking about going with something different.

Exactly. Also if you don't have turnouts then you are spraying condensation and unburned fuel right at the tires. Notice that when you stick your hand behind tail pipes it often gets wet. You want that on your tires?

In theory, there is no difference between theory and practice. In practice, there is.
