What the deal with the aftermarket blocks now? Last I heard World has stopped Production.. Maybe Zippy will chime in?
So the plan is to build a large Bore 4.5 minimal moderate stroke, and moderate compression and add some spray...
Im thinking a 540" with a 4.5 bore and a 4.25 stroke, nice light pistons, rods good crank and spray it 250+... entry level 440-1 heads, but from scratch a B1 Original probably isnt much more money is it?
My goal isnt to crazy, make 800+ on motor and have 1000+ on spray. See how fast I can get a 2750 lb car to go... Of coarse on Radials

Let me add that the World hemi block I used was very nice, I sure hoped I havent missed the boat with a Wedgie version.
The Indy Maxx block was nice too..

Bill Mitchell JR. still has them on eBay. That's where I bought mine last fall.

A friend bought one of these as well. Note the .200 spread on the lifter bores. Did you go with a custom cam? What lifters did you use?

I vote for the Kieth Black Block! Ken is a stand up guy, and the casting quality is way better than the Indy stuff...

Good luck,

Arnie

B1WES built exactly what you need! A KB block, mildly ported B1 head motor, low deck 4.500 bore, 4.25 stroke single four setup. The new owner still is on this board.
Motor made 914 hp all motor. It was built for spray, and flew once the juice was put to it. can,t remember how fast, but deep into the 8s at 3400 lbs. I put one pass on the car during initial shake down runs out in Phoenix AZ. Went 9 teens in the thin air out there.
Basic B1 540 with a plate ought to push you to low eights.

I also purchased this exact block. It requires a fair amount of work to make it right. FYI you can run a standard cam. The lifters will be near the edge of the lobe. You will need a .200 lifter, I used ISKY EZ roll. I am not sure about the quote of priority main oiling? Also if you order it with lifter bushing you may require smaller hole for pushrod oiling. Also I had a terrible time trying to seal the rear main. Finally installed a rope seal and no leaks! With my nitrous cam and B1MC's it made just short of 900 on my buddies dyno if that means anything. It made alot of torque 840 ft/lbs. I hope to be spraying on the chassis dyno this week!

Mike

The Bill Mitchell block shown is a raised cam block, nothing wrong with that but keep in mind that no timing chain is available so either a $$$ gear drive or a $1500. Jesel belt is needed. Also with the raised cam a special cam is needed. I went with the Jesel.

it's ok to butt heads, just don't do it with a butthead

Bob,

Your idea is very close to my 514 motor. I went with 4.440 on the bore and 4.15 stroke. With flat top pistons it is just a little over 12:1. With EZ heads and a solid roller it makes about 825 hp. I don't think I'll spray it but I suppose I could down the road. I used a Callies crank in it and had Diamond custom build some really nice pistons for it. Good luck with your build.

Only thing I can add is put more stroke in it. I love my 4.5 stroke, stock block motor. I have 7.1 GRP alum rods with 440 source crank and pistons. It makes great tq.

I think 4.5 X 4.5 is a good combo for us mopar guys. Good power and reliable.

My old wedge ran well, low rpm etc. It was a 4.44 bore x 4.5 stroke. deal.. It out ran several rigs at the local tracks who had twice the money in there's
You think the longer arm really pays off with conventional heads, and in a power adder situation?

I know where there is a brand new 4.5 finish bore block. It is one of the older blocks before World started to cast them.

Still Broke

NOS makes alot of TQ so I vote for the 4.25 crank and 4.500 bore.
Your right, with mild ported B1's you'll have great potential later and almost the same $$$ as -1's with full porting.

KB block if aluminum or World/Koleno if cast iron. Got to a large 60mm cam core, Jesel lifters and good pushrods.

B1 heads are best for spray and gasket sealing. THICK decks!!

I can't see a reason to cut the displacement thirty cubic inches. Hooking is not a good reason to me. Make all the power you can and worry about hooking it later.

I know nitrous makes good power but it will make more on a bigger motor.

There is no replacement for displacement.

My 540 pistons are light with the 7.1 rod.

You have a 4.5 crank in a stock block?

sounds fast, how many passes you get before you have to change rod and main bearings?
