I have the DMI low mount alternator/cranks trigger set up with a 140amp
Powermaster Alt. My problem is the motor breaks up really bad above
4500rpms. When I disconnect the belt it runs great. I shielded my pickup
Wires with 3 layers of tin foil, but that doesn't help.
My alt just died and I need to get a new one. Will a different alt work?
I know someone had this same problem like 2 years ago. How did they fix it?

If they alt stopped working, just take it to a local electrical/motor shop and have it rebuilt.

The alt ate itself up and is not repairable. No one has any ideas?
I will probably just go back to my distributor, and sell the DMI/ crank teigger setup if I can't fix this.

forget the foil Did you twist the wires like instructed

Quote:

Twist the wires of the pickup together several times before connecting it to the MSD wiring harness. Twisting these wires together helps reduce the chances of Electro Magnetic Interference (EMI ).
Route the pickup harness along the chassis or engine block. This provides a ground plane that protects against EMI.
Do not run the trigger wires along the coil primary wiring or spark plug wires. There are high voltages running through these wires so they should not be close to the pickup wires.
Never use solid core spark plug wires with an MSD Ignition system or crank trigger. A helically or spiral wound suppression wire such as MSD’s Heli-Core or 8.5mm Super Conductor Wire must be used.
If you are running a digital ignition control or aftermarket EFI system, it is highly recommended to use a shielded harness, PN 8862, to prevent the chance of EMI interfering with the trigger signal

Actually I didn't twist the wires off the trigger sensor.
Hopefully when I replace the alt that will fix it.
I might buy a shielded cable too, since the tin foil looks like crap.
Would a MSD noise filter do anything?

Can you just move the pick-up to the other side of the motor?

The oil filter is in the way. Would have to buy a remote oil filter kit.
Hopefully I won't have to do that.
