We have a Gran Cuda/Barracuda coupe (or however its said) I am doing the exterior trim and I am really confused. Here are the questions:

Rear tail panel what color is it? Black, silver, or body color? I found the rear gran lock at Carlisle. What words go next to it? Cuda, Barracuda? What. What type of trim goes on the back tail panel? Some people have told me there is special trim, others have said it is the basic trim, what is it?
Grill, argent with redline, flat black with silver insert and just plymouth.
I know the fenders have the gran emblem and I think the Barracuda script. What is the position of these. I know these are alot of questions, but I am really confused. I am sure I am leaving out something, feel free to fill in any blanks for me. If anyone has any pictures I would really appreciate them.

Thanks Jeff
The car came with gilles on it, so I think that is right.
The fenders I believe have

I think you are talking about a Gran Coupe. If the 70 is the same as the 71 the tail panel should be silver. The tail panel trim goes around the flat area on the back of the trunk lid and two side pieces. There should be pictures in some of the old source books.
The grille should be argent.

If you provide the first four letters/numbers of the vin a lot of people can answer your questions but based upon your description it is hard to tell what you have and therefore answer your question correctly.

the argent grille is correct, the rear panel should be medium textured argent, the chrome surround is the standard rear Cuda' blackout trim if equipped, (edit, I've seen chrome surround on Argent, no chrome surround on Argent, and the 3 pc trunk chrome with argent) a Barracuda emblem is all that's on the rear, accompanied by the Gran Coupe lock cover,....special side rocker mldgs are exclusive to the Gran Coupe though, the upper front portion of the door will have a Barracuda emblem along with the Grande coupe crest or it can be located on the lower front fender as well, (could be a production change depending on build date), the interior panels will have the "Gran Coupe" emblems on them, depending on interior options, you'll either have woodgrain or red stripe door panel inserts, as well as the GranCoupe overhead consolette, dash will be either rallye gauges, or std cluster, but with woodgrain and small clock, rear panel ashtrays as well, and a special cigar lighter was used in the ash tray as well, a vinyl top car will/should have the aluminum textured rear window mouldings as well, unless you have a vert.........I've parted out quite a few GranCoupes over years, unique cars, esp if in Hi-po trim.....goodluck on your project

Mike

Dayclona,

I actually have two grills, one is black and the other is argent. You said the grill is correct; however, I am confused as to which one is correct.

As usual thank you so much for the help.

Jeff

Doesn't the Gran Coupe have the anodized aluminum trim on the lip of the trunk like the '72 - '74, not the 4 piece stainless blackout trim?

I corrected/edited my post above,...I've seen it 3 ways, always Medium Argent though but with the 4 pc surrond mldgs, the 3 pc mouldings, or no mldgs, but still argent,.....

I parted a very original 70 383 4spd GranCoupe that had the 4pc moulding w/Argent tailpanel

Also, I'll add....Grille is argent as stated but it had the chrome rectangle trim {AAR cuda had the same trim} and not the redline trim...BE&A reproduce the grille trim.... ...Here's a pic of the gran coupe rocker moulding...71 on left 70 on right..Be careful, there was a B body rocker moulding that looked real close to the GC pieces and some get them confused...

Colin,...I'll have to respectfully disagree on the grille, while most had the chrome rectangular bezels,....I parted 2 1970 383 N code GrandCoupes that had redline bars in the grille,( perhaps it was to denote a premium reformance pkg on the Gran Coupe?), along with redline interior panels, and these were very original cars, untouched/unrestored, just neglected,.....just like the fender or door badge, some 70's had the door badge/barracuda emblem with upper pinstripes, and I've seen upper pin stripes with fender mounted badges/Barracuda emblems, 1970 was an introduction year, so I think a few variations will exsist, as you know with MOPAR, nothing is etched in stone in regards to how these cars were built

Could be Mike...I have'nt personally run across the redbar grille in the GC {that could be confirmed original} but you're right...Never say never...Not to get off track but on that note I was looking at some 1970 advertisements at Carlisle this weekend and ran across a red{with red shaker} hemicuda with Gran Coupe badging on the fenders...Makes you wonder where the pre-production and actual produced cars/parts began and ended or even just slipped down the line by mistake...The 70 barracuda dealer brochure shows the black/white "houndstooth" {P5X9} interior but the red piping location on the seats seems to have been changed when the actual interior was released...Did that {possibly 1 off }interior actually make it to the street ??? Even the hood pin lanyards changed from the original press car to production...Check out this advertisement I have hanging in the shop... The lanyards came through a dedicated hole in the headlight bezels !!!

Theoretically, the tailpanel was supposed to be Astrotone (textured argent) silver and the 3-piece aluminum decklid & quarter trim applied.

However:

A22 (front/rear elastomeric bumper) package equipped cars tended to get a blacked out tailpanel and the 4-piece 'Cuda thin stainless moulding. Barracudas too.

And the M88 code for the tailpanel trim does not distinguish between models -

M88 for Gran Coupe or M46 Barracuda was supposed to mean 3 piece aluminum trim

M88 for 'Cuda was to mean the 4-piece trim.

Could/did confusion happen? Absolutely.

While I'm not as up to speed on the grille codes, it stands to reason that the specs for GC called for a grille with trim in it - the assembly line guy would simply grab something that wasn't a plain Barracuda grille. Thus red bars could (and did) happen, but probably not by design.

OKay.......that could explain Ronnie Sox's former 1970 GranCoupe

Colin, ...that was probally the early pilot/magazine test car that Dan Gurney test drove/dragstrip tested for PHR back in sept of 1969....IIRC the car had Astro/argent road wheels, astro/argent rear tailpanel with 4 pc chrome, black vinyl/black leather interior (GranCoupe style)...and IIRC black HEMI hockey stiks...I do remember the GC fender badges though, and IIRC the engine had 69 style valve covers (HEMI)

I just wanted to add (from my reading and personal sightings) that the inner door inserts were only done in red on the Tor-red cars. All other exterior colors were supposed to get the woodgrain inserts.
