i'm wondering if i will have any cooling problems with my 318 now that i put a 340 intake/4bbl car on. i didnt know until i took it all apart, but my dad wasnt running a thermostat when it was stock!

the only time the temp gauge would climb was when it was sitting in traffic in the summer heat.

when i put her all back together, i threw in a 180* thermostat, but the car doesnt have a shroud, which i'm told makes a big difference in the cooling efficiency. i didnt get a chance to take it out on the road yet cause i'm still trying to get her to idle right, but should i have any problems without a shroud?

thanks

I'd say try it like it is because you can always add a shroud later if you find you need it.

should do fine for test and tune, what kind of fan set up does it have?

what intake and 4-v carb?

just bumping to a 4-v should not change any thing unless it way lean or timeing out of whack

what condition is the rad in ?

run it till you find a stock shroud for it,I have done that many times

thanks for the reply!

the car is in great shape and has been a reliable cruiser for a while now, its a 73 road runner...i just wanted a small project to get my feet wet with engine work on an old car cause i plan on looking for a 360 to rebuild for it over the next few years possibly...

the radiator is excellent and i didnt mess with timing or anything. just had the 4bbl holley rebuilt slapped it on with a vintage 340 intake mani and fired it up!

need to figure out something with the kick down arm though...the aftermarket brackets will only accept the lokar cables...

The shroud was not stock on the 318 engine unless you spec max cooling such as 318 trk or van on the cars no unless again Max cooling with A/C. The baby rad maybe a problem if so get a rad with 22-26 inch core. I know a guy who has a alum rad and custom shroud that should fit as it was in 71 Cuda and price was reasonable and looks new

There is nothing wrong with using the Lokar kick down cable.

Plenty came with no shroud. Try running it, see if it heats up too much in traffic. You can always add one later.
