383man OP Too Many Posts 3 Joined: Jan 2003 Posts: 27,421 Balt. Md	I picked up this shroud from the junk yard the other day and modified it to fit my 63's aluminum rad. It seems to have turned out ok. Now to see if it helps stay cooler in traffic. Ron

Seems to pull alot of air and work ok. I plan to try a different one also when I get my hands on another one. Maybe one of the 7 blade ones ? I went to the shroud hoping to keep it cooler idleing in traffic. Ron

I find the 70's-80's 5 blade clutch fans work just as well or better. I had a '68 BB solid 7 blade on my 80 Mirada 360 without a shroud and the temp would creep up pretty quickly when stuck in traffic. I later added a shroud which helped but didn't cure it. I then tried swapping to a 5 blade fan off a 5th avenue with a questionable fan clutch and the problem went away. Before I would be over 200* in a matter of minutes, now it won't go over 180-190 no matter how long it idles. I'm not sure why it works better though. I think the clutch fan is a bigger diameter and the pitch must be more aggresive.

Md	I actually went with the electric fan for when I was stuck in traffic as I will just flip the switch and run the electric fan in traffic as I have it on a toggle switch. Thats why I stayed with the flex fan as it does not rob much hp at the track and the electric fan will move air when in traffic. But this new stroker seems to run a good 10 degrees hotter then the old 440 did so thats why I made this shroud to help the air go over the rad and not around it. Today was very hot and I drove it all around. Never went over 200 even sitting in traffic for 5 to 10 minutes without moving. But I may still try a better fan to see if it runs even cooler in traffic. Thanks for all the replies. Ron

T Joined: Jan 2003 Posts: 21,079 Niles , Ohio	Ron I run a big ss flex from Summit on the 65.Even when its 90s out it runs at 180 190 all day.I even have an untouched 65 rad in it.I just hear people here ragging on flex fans all the time.Mine has been on at least 10 years and never any problems.I bet that new stroker really screams.Rocky Chrysler Firepower

Don't ask how i know!! I can't see your hood, but do you have the rubber seal on your hood that meets the rad support??? that seal make a big difference, without it all your doing is sucking the hot after rad air back thru the rad...i put that seal in my charger and dropped temps by 10*deg. worth a try?

The fan came apart, and actually punched a hole in his STEEL hood! Part of the blade was still stuck in the hood. Now imagine what would have happened if someone was underhood at the time. 526 cubes of angry wedge, pushbutton shifted, 9 passenger killer!

T Joined: Jan 2003 Posts: 21,079 Niles , Ohio	Well I had a factory fan break on me.It was at startup and was only 6 years old.Ive run flex fans for years.My Jeep was a daily driver plow unit.It ran a flex that I pulled from the 65 that was 7 years old and it was on the Jeep for another 6 years.Cheap fans of anykind can break.I run stainless heavy duty only.Rocky Chrysler Firepower
