Back in the early 80's , I remember on the 318's had a
very thin, single layer steel headgasket. does anyone know where to get them now? i want to try to raise the compression ratio, the slugs are .070 in the hole. i'll also have the heads milled

Instead of sinking money into the open chamber heads, you may want to spring now for an upgrade to Magnum heads. The Magnum heads flow much better, and the closed chamber design will pick you up about a 1/2 point or so of compression (maybe a little more on a 318).

Was another post on here or on FABO, about thin steel gaskets. You can search this number and bring up the posts I think.

Head gasket P4286754
steel shim 0.020" thick
At dealer have them use Chrysler Dealer Connect for search
Also, can try Pt#3614824 (at parts store?)

Another possibility for a healthy bump in compression would be the 87-91 closed chamber heads. Last three digits of the casting number are 302. While not as good as the magnum heads, they require no other parts swapping and should be available at a salvage yard near you.

PAW used to sell them in their rebuild gasket kits.

You could buy 2 full gasket kits for the price of one pair of mopar head gaskets. They went out of business but I would like to find their old supplier.

Everybody was out of stock a year or so ago. I sold one of my spare sets then.

I have a set of Magnum heads, I'm going to use.
In addition to the thin gaskets
