Don't you hate when something like that happens. You guys have done a great job on the car. I also did not know there was a difference in the emblems and would have made the same mistake most likely. I looked in the Year One Catalog and they (for whatever reason) are not listing that emblem for 1970. They do show the emblem for 1971 and it is the same part number (FD40E)as 73 and 74 as well. Does not say if it is 2 or three prong. Here is another possible option that is not 100% correct. What if you cut the bar out of the emblem between the 340 and the word "FOUR". That may allow you to separate it enough to cover the holes. You'd probably have to remove the studs on the back of the emblem also because the words wouldn't be too far apart if you tried to use them in the holes. Joe

That's a awesome idea! I'm gonna give it some thought.
I can't remember, but if you can see the studs under the hood, then save them and glue them them in from underneath to fill the holes under the hood and it will look like the studs are coming through. You could get another emblem and get the studs off of that since you will be 2 studs short.

70 & 71 emblems are not different the jumbo emblems started showing up in 72 on B bodies they weren't used on E bodies...The three hole pattern was only used for 440 SIXPACK or 426 HEMI emblems...The correct fix would be to weld up the holes & repaint...
I'm looking at the 1971 Dodge dealer brochure, & on a 71 Plum Crazy Challenger R/T with a R/T scooped hood it clearly shows a jumbo 440-six pack hood emblem. The pic is in the desert, & it looks like a Kowalski wannabe standing next to the R/T...

The 440 SIXPACK & 426 HEMI emblems were bigger from the beginning...Which is why the hood required three holes...By 72 440-6 & Hemi were gone so 340 & 400 emblems got big to add flash since the cars weren't fast any more they needed "Flash"...

What about the 70 Challenger w/ R/T hood. Were the SixPack & Hemi emblems the small or large ones?
