My driver door lock works like any door lock does. Now my passenger side is in reverse meaning. When you push the door lock button down the door is now unlocked. When you lift the button up it becomes locked. My friend who is a retired bodyman looked at it can't see anything inside the door we could change to fix it. The button doesn't come up as high as the other side. Makes it hard to get the door lock button on. We found when repainting the car the passenger door was replaced due to a bad accident also the quarter was pulled out and repaired under the rear side window. Any suggestion on how to fix the lock so button works correctly would be helpful oops forgot its a 1965 Plymouth Belvedere

Sounds like it has the door latch from the opposite side installed in the door , not sure if that is possible though ?

Does '65 use any sort of bellcrank for the linkage?

If you it's probably mounted upside down or backwards somehow...so the linkage is pulling from the other side, which help have it a little shorter as well like you mentioned perhaps.
