I just painted my boat with a single stage imron.
I got some tiny bubbling and a few bugs on the surface and I want to try and wet sand them out. I have never wet sanded before so I'll take any advice I can get but mostly I need to no what grit to start and end with, or should I just use one type?thanks.

Start with 1000 or 1200 and move up from there. Imron is a very hard drying paint, use lots of water.

I had good luck on my last project with 1500 grit. there's a few spots though that I want to go back and touch up with the buffer though.

Is it mandatory to buff after wet sanding or will it create it's own shine? I'm worried about dulling the surface.

You'll need to buff it to bring back the shine...

you need to do Imron right away or it won't buff out worth a toot.

Is it a solid color or metallic? Single stage metallic can give you problems if you try to colorsand and buff. The metallic can end up looking uneven.

IF you touch it with paper you will need to buff it. I would not start with 1000 grit. depending on the imperfections start with the finest paper you can find. 2000, 2500,etc. It is easier to start with the finest paper, then decide if it took out the imperfections. If you start with 1000 grit, you'll be sanding with 1200, 1500, then 2000 before you'll be able to buff out the sanding scratches. If your going to do the whole boat, you'll need a good buffer. A small underpowered buffer will not cut it. You'll also want to consult the place you got the paint to find out about buffing/polishing compound. I like 3m products. You can leave it as is, sand and buff the entire thing. Since it is a single stage and an easy color (white with no metallic) you may be able to lightly sand the places that are most noticeable, and blend in the buffing. Keep in mind that there needs to be an adequate thickness of material in which to sand, do not sand on the peaks, and do not sand too much or too aggressively. Let the paper do the work. Make sure you have a sanding block (I like the soft flexible ones for color sanding) fill a new or very clean bucket with clean water and keep everything wet. Change the paper often and be patient. You;ll need an aggressive cutting compound with a wool bonnet to buff out the sanding scratches, then likely follow up with a polish on a foam pad.

Use a nib file first to remove most of the bugs and any other large raised imperfections. If you try to use sandpaper only to remove large dirt, etc.,you will most likely sand through the surrounding area. After the file is used follow through with the wet sanding and buffing as stated above.I thought the boat was going to be a C -body!
