Built a motor for a friend about 25 years ago. The heads were 516 closed chamber ported a ton!!! There was no welding on the heads. The owner said he used a 440-1 manifold that fit. I told him the ports cant be that big. The Max Wedge gaskets were too big. he sent me this picture. The gasket is covering the heat crossover. Can anyone figure out what port size this is??

these look like max wedge ports ,you said they were ported to the max. my friend has a set that was ported to max wedge size also ,they were intended for a alcohol dragster.

No heat crossover . they're max heads. Look alot like the ones we're putting on my brothers 383. You'll likely need to weld a standard port intake to use em. (ie most intakes,, victor,,)

Covering the cross over isnt a problem unless you run in cold weather. If the 440 1 has max ports it probally wont work.Rocky

I held a max wedge gasket up to my 915 heads and the gasket was bigger than the runners. It looks like the runners on this head are somewhere between standard port and Max. My question is how big is a 440-1 port?

The 440-1 heads are max wedge port size (they match the max wedge intake gasket). We run them on our big motor.
