I haven't driven my car lately on the street, but today I drove it to work. I have a Holley 950HP that seems to always have a miss at steady throttle cruising at around 3000 rpm and has a hesistation from a stop. I notice the hesitation at the track when I leave from the pits. It run fine at mostly full to full throttle. What causes the miss would you change to fix this? The plugs, wires and cap are all relatively new.

l would check the air bleeds to see if one is plugged/dirty.

I really don't think its a dirty air bleed issue, I had the carb apart recently and cleaned them. This carburator has had this issue since day one.

I just thought about something, I need to change the bushing in the distributor for more initial timing. I set up the distributor previously when I had a 360 in the car. The 360 liked 36 degrees total timing and about 18 initial. I have a 418 in the car now and only run 32 total timing, so the initial is probably around 14. I will try to change the bushing tomorrow and see if it makes a difference.

I checked the distributor and I had the black 18 degree bushing in it. Total timing was 32 degrees and only 11 initial, so I am actually getting about 21 degrees advance. The black bushing is the largest one and provides the least amount of advance. I made a bushing and got 14 initial and 32 total, but I would still like to have the initial at 18-20 degrees. I found that FBO sells 10 and 14 degree bushings. I will either try to make another bushing or buy the ones from FBO.

Why don't you get Don to re-curve your dist?.

He did mine and wow what a differance...and no more guessing at what the timing is. It's one variable you can eliminate.

I guess I should have mentioned it is a MSD distributor. It is just a matter of getting the correct bushing made.
