PP1 is the red (Matador Red for Plymouth).
RR1 is the Burgundy Iridescent.

1968 Dodge "reds":
Paint code P is "red"
Paint code R is "burgundy metallic"
& the new for spring '68
Paint code 3 is "bright red", which became R4 for 1969

What's the deal with the 33-1 red? The PP1 looks awful dark. Is that color chart misleading? I do want it a correct factory color and i'd like to use the brightest red the car was available in.. Did a 68 Bee come in that 33-1?

33-1 is a "Spring color" released late in production the following year it was called " Performance Red" & is a very Orange Red... The color chip doesn't do PP-1 justice it is a very intense blood red... Jim's Hemi Roadrunner pictures do a good job of showing the PP-1 color....

Most of the colors on that chart look to be much darker than they should be. PP1 is pretty bright and heres a pic of my RR1 Roadrunner to show how dark the colors are on the chart are.

You're right. I did the body on Jim's Road Runner. Before we began painting, I did multiple spray-outs to get the right shade. The shade of his PP1 red is faithful to the original color, and we used PPG Deltron base/clear on his car.
While I was buffing out Jim's car inside the shop, it looked almost maroon. When rolled out into the sun, it is a very bright red. BTW, we used a slightly altered formula to get the original shade right.
Dave, if you need more info, contact me. I can also give you the link to our website and you can see more about it.

Yes, that chip chart scan is dark. I mostly posted it to show the codes and the spring red.

The monotone paint code PP1 is the same "typical" (non-metallic) red seen on many '66-'68 Mopars.

For Dodge, it appears the new for spring '68 colors 3 & 6 were Charger ONLY!
These colors became R4 & F8 respectively in '69. Attached stolen from Hamtramck-Historical.

Here's a "survivor" '68 in "red". ...... similar to '69s R6, think GTX.

It is called Scorch Red... But Blood Red better describes the color...

More accurately as posted above by Chi town runner it's called

Dodge = Red
Plymouth = Matador Red
Chrysler = Scorch Red
Imperial = Flame Red

Steve was correct about the red showing a little different in various lighting conditions. PP1 had the same mix codes from 66-68. This shot is on an overcast day.
