Guys, I just got the car recently. It sat for over 2 years, I changed the plugs and wires, replaced the intake gaskets, carb gasket, etc... The car starts fine but only will idle if I have the manual choke closed over half way. Car has the original 383 magnum 30 over, Edelbrock carb and cast iron intake. I have a DVD he gave me of the carb, but I have never messed with one. Any suggestions? Thanks for the help...in advance!!!!

I'll guess yo have a vacuum leak somewhere. Check for broken, craked vacuum lines. The 69 has a TON of them. Check the can under the battery tray. If that looks good. Start it up and spray carb cleaner around the base of the carb and intake.

That would be my first check as well... I would isolate all the vacuum ports. If you vacuum-t on the back of your intake has a bunch of lines going to it, disconnect them and put caps on them to seal them. After that, try running your motor again. If it still won't run, then you can focus more on the intake or carb-base gasket and do the ole' carb cleaner trick around the base of carb and/or intake surfaces by the heads. If you hear an increase in idle, then you've probably narrowed down the area of leakage. It's a troubleshooting start..

Would this make the car idle high then low then high then low? I thought maybe the fuel air mixture was messed up? Thanks for the responses so far!!!!

Yes, an erratic idle is one of the many symptoms of a vacuum leak.
It might be wise to replace every hose under the hood anyway. NO there are NOT a ton of them. This isn't a 76 model after all.
