No, I'd start by setting the floats & correct PV' s for your app (not blown & a # 1/2 of idle vac in gear "if automatic") for a start plus not too high idle fuel psi (check it) & I'm assuming no waterlogged floats/needle & seat OK. Not sure on the popping but I'd check plugs/wires/AP shot/as said vac leak/rotor phasing. Holler back w what you find

it was at 190/5 degrees but when i got to my desination as soon as i hit the first traffic light is got up to 212ish my buddy said its cause of the speed i was going on the highway with my gears 456, just to hard to go slower onthe highway. does this sound like thats probably my issue.
No, actually the opposite. At highway speed you have more airflow thru the rad, so it was cooling well. Once you hit traffic and all you had to draw air thru the rad was the rad fan, you started heating up. 212 is nothing to worry about, however in theory a cooling system should always keep your engine temp no higher than the thermostat rating. In real life most cooling systems on these old cars don't have enough cooling capacity to do that, so building up a little heat in traffic is not a big issue.
