Roughly 9 cars or so showed up this evening for test and tune. Nice to put some faces to the names, BTW!
Folks are getting things dialed in (clocks were off and I could tell you what they ran, but they would then have to kill me, soooo...) Traction has not been a problem, as Tony will attest. He said numerous people told him he would have trouble with a drag radial here, but he now agrees that the track will hold a lot more small tire than he was told! (The track is now all concrete and a first class surface.) Man, that thing flew!
Biggest bummer of the night was BondoBob's unfortunate incident. Looked great on his shakedown pass, but when he started the car at the top of the lanes for his second pass, he said he heard some pinging noise and felt the engine bog slightly. He said he had good oil pressure but shut it off immediately. Back in the pits, the #2 plug came out with the end smashed. Once the valve cover came off, it wasn't pretty. Intake rocker was pushing on the retainer with the valve tip bent outwards outside the roller tip.
Gotta hand it to him though - he thrashed to get that small block here for the race, which is a bit further than some big block Duster 110 miles to my north made it.
P.S.- Bob's ride and fabrication are first class!
Anyway, looking forward to the rest of the cars showing tomorrow and a great day at the track!
