Anybody care to guess the weight difference between a 72 and 73 Duster?? Major difference is the big front bumper right??

The title weight for my 73 Duster with a /6 is 2850 or 2950 (can't quit remember at the moment).

~100lbs. The front bumper, crash bar, hood, and front suspension are the major differences...

My '73 weighs exactly 3,300 pounds with a half tank of gas and all metal body and bumpers, full interior, iron headed 340 with 727 and 8 3/4. It was weighed on a certified scale at a scrap yard so I know it is accurate.

Had a 73 Duster 340 a long time ago. I removed the bumper guards and the bumper reinforcement beams. Can't remember now if just the front bumper had a beam behind it, or both front and rear, but I do remember that the parts I removed collectively weighed just under 50 pounds.

There are bumper beams both front and rear and they are HEAVY. I would guess the front alone weighs in at about 30-35 lbs. I cant wait to get rid of them and put fiber-glass bumpers and brackets in their place (wont be for awhile, though).

The NHRA classification guide shipping weights show a '72 340 Duster as weighing 3,129 lbs and a '73 Duster weighing 3,190 lbs.

I believe the '73 and '74 Dusters had a removable reinforcement in the front bumper which allows the bumper to be reinstalled. Can't do that with the later shock absorber bumper brackets.

Things started getting more heavier in '74 when they put the shock absorber bumper brackets in the rear and in the front in '75. Interestingly enough '75 was the heaviest year for Dusters and Dart Sports as '76 weights were down a bit. Then there were the '76 Feather Dusters and Dart Lites, but only came with 6 cyl. engines.

1970 and 1971 didn't have the crash bars in the doors yet. But I'm at lunch at work and don't have time to look up additional weights.

I don't know exactly what base figures NHRA got from Chrysler. Stripper models perhaps? But I believe that's about as good of a comparison as you can find.

Weighing different cars now will vary from car to car based on options. With-A/C weighs more than no-A/C, bucket seats weigh more than bench seats, etc.

Fair enough to assume both cars were similarly equipt??

lol We all know it can be dangerous to "assume". But it would have been logical to provide all shipping weights based on a "stripper" model with no options to maintain consistency. I just don't have any way to verify it.

My barge ('74) scaled 3600 at E Town with me in it and about a half tank. What a PIG!
Buckets, console, fold down rear seat (talk about some extra weight...yeesh!)no PS or PB, no AC, V8 and 727 w/ 8 3/4. Added weight would be the frame connectors and my fat butt at 255. On the lightening side are aluminum heads and intake, headers, Weld wheels.
I am sure the factory rating of near 3200 was a stripper model /6 904, small rear, etc

I thought 72 and 73 had the same rear bumper and that only the front was different

Hey CJ. Was that your car at Carlisle w/ all the other F.A.S.T. cars?

Not quite what you asked for but as I recall my "loaded" '75 Duster weighs in the neighborhood of 3,660 or so without me in it!

It's a bench seat 318/904 car with PS/PDB/A/C.

Here all this time I thought it was light! WRONG!

What does your car weight now, CJK?
