I have checked with all the usual houses (AutoZone, NAPA, etc.), on line retailers (RockAuto),
and Googled my [Edited by Moparts - Family Friendly Site - Keep it clean] off.

Can't find anyone left who makes a lower radiator hose with the coil inside.

Checked all the local yards where I can pull the coil out of an old one. Nope.

Looked for "universal" hose coils. Nope.

Am I just plain S.O.O.L?

I'm not buying it .

Sheeper , you can make a spring if you need to , get a piece of stainless Tig welding wire and wrap it around a piece of pipe .

I have seen bottom hoses suck closed just by revving the motor up, I don't agree also

Yeah, they're full of crap on that link. My Challenger ran very hot, but only on the highway. It was fine around town. Mentioned this problem to a Mopar buddy, and he suggested I put a spring in the lower hose. Bought a generic flex hose at the parts house, removed the spring, and installed it in my molded hose. Problem instantly solved...

And before you wrap that TIG rod around the pipe, take a pair of needle-nose pliers and bend a very small loop on each end to keep the spring from poking thru the side of the hose.

And if you're still set on just buying a pre-made spring the ford resto crowd has a BB spring available for about 5 bucks that'll work...All the muscle car era chebbys used smaller diameter hoses so they would'nt be any help but even those are available for the camaro/pontiac guys...Which seems to support everyone's theory.... Why would they even be available if they were'nt needed ???....

I made a coil out of a Volare' antenna. Nice stainless steel---THICK.

EXTREMELY hard to bend. But I did. Its in the 'Cuda.

As I recall that little exercise even involved a blood sacrifice

Yup, just went through this on my daughters car. I was working on it and I reached over and hit the throttle one time and happened to be looking down and saw the hose go flat as a pancake. I made a spring out of a wire coat hanger, problem solved.

NAPA sells the springs to put into any hose you have. I have bought them there before.

Wow, interesting stuff. I too recently tried to find a replacement hose for my 360 Gran Fury that had the spring, and could not find one. I tried to remove the one from the old hose and stick it thru the new one but I messed it up trying. I also have wanted to find molded silicone upper and lower rad hoses for it, unsuccessfully. I can only find heater and bypass hose. Plenty for SRT4's, but not good ole V8's.

plus that article said that cars operate at 12-15 PSI which keeps outward pressure on the hose.

may be true for new vehicles with EFI that operate at the 210 degree range normally, but with a 180 degree stat, mine never builds up pressure, maybe a couple PSI when it's fully warmed up, but it definitly isn't 12-15 PSI, despite having a radiator cap rated to that amount. and no, it doesn't bubble coolant out either, so it's not like I have a faulty cap that is releasing pressure.

coat hangers would work well too, and are free. not much need to go buy special stainless steel rods to make a coil for the hose--what's the inside of the block made of? cast iron! just keep your anti-freeze at the right mixture, since it does contain some anti-corrosion properties to it, and your spring/coil will last until you rebuild your engine again.

I have changed a few wp that had rusted wire around the impellers and have changed one t-cover with a groove cut in it so it leaked water into the crank case.

i would not recomend a coat hanger as it will rust up fast with or with out anti freeze.

in a pinch maybe..but any long term..no way

I'll go down there today and see if I can get a guy behind the counter that understands what I'm asking for and doesn't ask first "Make, Model, Year?"
I just looked on the NAPA website but I couldn't find it. But NAPA's website is impossible to navigate anyway. The programmers ought to shot.
EVERY car parts supplier could learn a lesson or two from RockAuto's web site.

They didn't have a clue what I was asking for.
Talked to the more "experienced" gents there and they said they didn't know of any.

I then said "well I understand theress Ford lower radiator hoses that have them. Got one of them?"
thinking I'll buy the whole darn hose and use the spring.

"Make? Model? Year?"
I walked out...

I went to an auto parts chain store for mine. Don't remember which one. Told him I wanted a universal flex hose with a spring in it, and I didn't care what the application was. I wound up buying a long hose so that the spring would be plenty long. Paid 10.00 for the hose and it works perfectly. I trimmed it a little bit to fit in my molded lower hose....

Bring your hose with you and ask him if you can go back and look at the hoses to pick the one that you want .

impress the welding supply counter clerk

get the ss welding rod and tell him it for the lower hose on a 440 engine

stop by lowes and look in the pipe section with rod in hand, find correct size and wrap it around the pipe to form spring,no need to buy the pipe.

go home and install it and have a good nights sleep knowing you have the spring and it cost a couple $ and wont rust.

should never have to replace it either
