How many degrees of rake do you folks set up your ladder bar cars?

Is there a magic number? I was thinkin 1-2*. Or is it better to have them level?

They should be angled downwards(front down) but your car
will determine how much... but with 1* - 2* you would
be real close... if you can get more... cool....
normally you cant get enough angle due to ground clearance

I'm new to ladder bars... I was originally in the bottom hole, but was told by a very respected racer that the bottom bar should be level and that I needed to raise mine higher..

He also said that the lower hole settings is for big power motors.. the higher ones were for less power motors..

I dont know.. maybe someone can clarify..

Thats true... but when most guys put the cross bar
in they are usually high and you dont have enough
holes to even get it level.... higher the bar the
harder it hits the tire and vice versa

I dont know about power levels but I can tell you the higher the ladder bar is in the chassis the harder it will hit the tire.

The lower you drop it up front and make more angle, the softer the hit.

Thanks guys!

I was referring to the angle of the car itself (as measured at the rocker panel). I'm finally getting around to installing my ladder bars. I realize the bars should be close to level at ride height for initial set-up. I was just curious what rake angle folks use for their cars. Or if it even matters... I guess I'll shoot for around 1.5* down. and see if I can get the bars level at that point.

Thanks again.

Thats a personal preference thing ALONG with HP
more HP you can get away with the front being lower...
I happen to like them close to level

Its more of a traction thing... if you can hook with
the front end low... cool... but it takes more for the
front to get up to or over the CG of the car... BUT
you also have more distance to get the front to lift...
like everything else in drag racing... its a balance

I asked this same question when building my car. For every degree of chassis rake, the ladder bar needs to be .280" higher at the cross member to remain level (32" bar x 3.1416 / 360 degrees =.2794 height change per degree). Level to the ground is really a meaningless measurement. The one that counts is the height of the front ladder bar mount relative to the cars C.G. That being said, level is usually close to that point. Depending on wheelbase, ladder bar length, and corner weights the front mount may have to be higher or lower. Level at the middle hole is a good starting point.
