Daughter left her car ('04 Stratus 2 dr with 2.4) on empty after graduating 2 weeks ago, went on vacation. It started today for a couple seconds, died, and now won't start. She's a hundred miles away, she has put 4 gallons of fuel in it, but it doesn't start. I've never run a fuel injected car out of fuel, any tips before I have to go get it?

Sounds like the fuel pump is gone bad, maybe? I pretty sure there should be no priming required with a electric pump in the tank. Might have her or someone rattle the tank a little to try to get get the pump to work, some times it works, most of the time in don't.

Might want mention to her running the tank low like that is harder on the pump, best to refill around a 1/4 tank.

w/Challenger1. No priming here. Have someone rap the bottom of the tank while cranking. If it starts I would still put a pump in it, on it's last leg.
DO NOT run injected cars low on fuel.....it helps cool an lube the pump!

Agreed, first step is slap bottom of tank a few times while cranking it.

You can also try cycling the key on-off-on-off etc. to prime the fuel system. Remember the pump only runs a few seconds with the key in the on position. I had to do this yesterday to move my 95 neon. It hadn't been started in a while and lost it's prime. I agree on swatting the tank to get the pump to run...I've done that before too.

Yup this works. Just remember the computer will only do this a few times before it gives up trying to prime the engine.
