I had signed up to run the Mo-Power series this, planned on going to all of the races. We were going to load up for Columbus on Thursday evening and head out early Friday morning.
Waited till the rain had quit & was drying up b4 loading up. Got the ATV loaded into the pickup & headed down the ramp to get tie-downs. Got part way down, and I guess my shoes may have been slick from walking through the grass. My right foot slipped down through a slot in the ramp, left leg stayed on the ramp. As I was falling to my left I grabbed my right leg with my hand to hopefully keep the bone aligned when it broke. I did feel my femur break with my hand before I landed with my leg trapped in the ramp.
The lower part of the bone wound up beside the upper part & my rt. leg was 4" shorter, at least till surgery the next morning. The worst part was when the had to get everything pulled back in alignment. All the meds they gave me didn't phase the pain or pressure inside my leg.
I'm now in a rehab center for 30-120 days. They put a permenant rod inside the bone & I don't know how many screws. I should be good to go for next year though.
I would like to throw out some beans to the 2 Police Officers & 8 Firemen/EMT'S that worked on me at the scene, my wife for keeping her cool AND already agreeing to race next year. Also the lady (don't remember her name, I was on pain meds) from Mo-Power events that showed her concern & worked with me so my son can drive the car at an upcoming event.
Yeah this year is over before we got started and I think I'm going to either alter the leg-chewing ramp or get a different one.
I know hardly anyone on here knows me, but that's not important. I love Mopars & love racing. All the rest of you I hope you have a very safe year & best of luck. I'll get the jacket & helmet back out next year, Larry.

Larry,
Man that sucks! Stick to it in rehab though and transfer the racing dedication to getting better. The work you do in there will only help you for the rest of your life especially after such trauma.
Like you said, cover those holes or at least enough to stop a foot. Best wishes

Got the staples out today. Leg was torn up more inside than I knew. Some muscle & soft tissue was torn up from the bone being displaced. Looking at all of the x-rays today for the first time made me feel very fortunate. It's still going to be several months without weight on that leg and a lot of therapy. When I got in this rehab unit I had 5 degrees movement in my knee. Today, less than 2 weeks into rehab I'm at 52 degrees. We've got a meeting of those in charge in 2 days. It looks like a very good possibility I'll be going home this week or maybe early next week. Shocked me big time.

Best wishes for a full recovery. However, it seems like you should put your wife in the seat. She did go to the track with you! Bet she cuts better lights soon too!

Accidents happen in a blink of an eye. That one sounded just gnarly. I tore my groin and abdomen muscle while squatting several months ago. That put me out of action for a few months. The good thing is these parts heal and soon you will be as good as new. I've found that the mental aspect of this kind of thing takes longer to repair than the damage itself.

Man...........I can read Stephen King or Dean Koontz' s scariest stuff and not get a reaction like I did reading about your fall.
I'm still wincing.
I have played hockey for many years and raced dirt bikes for a few............never been hurt worse than playing slow pitch softball.
I'm talking multiple injuries and I still kept coming back.
So I have come to believe that you will get hurt worse when you really shouldn't get hurt at all.
I bet if you went down that ramp on a pogo stick or stilts , you'd be getting ready to race this week end.
Sorry for your misfortune and best wishes for a quick mend.
