I just finished rebuilding my Carter AVS for my 69 Road Runner. I was expecting the Echlin kit to have a thin base gasket, which it did. What I wasn't expecting was a 3/8" thick black composite base gasket also. Does anyone know if the spacer also serves as the base gasket, or if I have to put the thin gasket on the intake then the spacer? I am thinking the spacer may be a good thing because I have fuel boil when I shut the car off on a real hot day and a bit more clearance may keep the fuel a bit cooler. Thanks.

The thick spacer will work as a gasket all by itself.

It is not a spacer, the thick gasket was standard in 70/71 due to intake and choke thermostat change. It will work on 68/69 but your choke rod will be the gasket thickness short.

I learnt sumpin new today. You could sub in a longer rod & check out the length of an OE one to get it exact then use the thicker spacer which does make quite a diff w the evap prob. If so do check the brass inserts in each corner that they are below the gasket thickness or you'll have a heck of a vac leak damhik.
