many racers use one of the currently available billet timing chain covers on the market. i know some make their purchase based on price, others by features and quality.
unfortunately the current offerings seem to lack in fall short in a couple of area's.
one of the covers available requires the use of a different hub for thr ATI damper and standard dampers are out of the question.
another of the covers available is a cast cover and may or may not work with a standard hub damper. neither damper has any provision for adjusting camshaft end play. your pretty much forced to adjust gasket thickness, grind the cam button or some other such procedure. that can be timne consuming to say the least.
anyway, we've developed a cover that will work with any standard damper and has a very nice setup for quickly and easily adjusting camshaft end play.
i realize this type of item is geared toward a small market, so our first production run will likely only be 25 units.
so what are your thoughts on an item like this. should we put it in production?, would you consider using one?
we have not put a price point on them as of today. they surely won't be as inexpensive as the cast covers but will likely be more in line with the other current billet offerings out there, albeit with what we feel were needed improvements.

your thoughts are welcome and greatly appreciated.

I think the builders that are willing to buy an aluminum cover will pay the billet price for a "better" fit unit.

But as you said, the market is small as many people can't justify spending $300+ for a cover when painting a new repop stock style steel timing cover is ~$30.

I am working on this issue now. I was going to use a stock cover and the water pump as a stop, but when it goes for dyno work they use elephant ears and I would loose my end play stop.
I bought a billet cover based on features and price. It was too shallow. I bought a thicker gasket, cut down cam bolt heads, and the cam button. Now the ATI balancer hits the button head cover screws, as does the water pump. So I must counter sink those fasteners. This is time consuming and I don't have a lot of time to work on this engine.
I would have bought your cover, if it was available.

That is made by Cleveland Speed. I polished the face of it, so it may look a little different. I was happy with it other than the issues I mentioned.

This kind of remarks from some people on this board may be why Dan dosnt post on here very much anymore. He is just reaching out to the fellas on this board trying to aid in areas he knows have an issue. No reason to bash "his reserch" skills for trying to help us racers out.

Dan is a TOP notch machinist that is proved time and again by his work. We need a keyboard cowboy smiley!!

I like Dan's work because he does it all in house. A lot of shops send a lot of it out.
