I need a new shifter for a project. When using a reverse pattern full manual valve body - is there a specific feature which calls for the Quarter Stick or the Pro Ratchet? Or is it only a matter of taste? Car will be driven on street...

I've thought on the idea of a full manaual valve body. I liked the idea of the Vmatic 2 shifter, allows for a regular floor shifter or total ratchet mode.

Can't go wrong with the Quater Stick. It is one heavy duty shifter. I have a forward pattern in my car. It has to be at least fifteen years old and it still operates flawlessly.

I have the B&M Pro Ratchet in my race car.

Love it to death.

Pull it as hard as you want it goes one gear every time.

I currently have a Q-Stick in my car (RMVB) and really don't care for it. Don't like to be pulling the trigger in for shifting to second and if it's not pulled in right she'll go straight to high gear

I've had the Hurst V-Matic and liked it real well and would use it again however I have aluminum rods and need to be able to slip to neutral after the stripe.

Heard good things about the Pro Ratchet also

Greg

Sounds like your shifter has the forward pattern plate in it.

I have a pistol grip Q/S. You pull the trigger for high gear, not second.

I agree he has the forward pattern plate. I could hit my Q-Stick with a slug hammer from first to second and it doesnt go to third unless the lever is pulled. I love mine I just wish I would have spent the extra 30 bucks and got the pistol grip style with the button in the handle.

Thank you
Kiddart

I have a pro ratchet and I am switching to the Pistol grip quarter stick. I hate the B&M and I feel its the reason the trans blew. It doesn't feel like the trans was fully in gear when the ratchet was clicked in. I don't like the feel and now that the trans is blown, the ratchet is for sale cheap.....My Hurst will be here today.

Well i like both of those shifters and have used both but to this day i have yet to find a shifter better than the ** Turbo action SCS cheetah shifter i have had no issues every with mine and the cable is alot bigger i would say look at all three and make your choice on what your needs are.!

I was really torn between that and the Hurst. I like both and the Turbo Action is super smooth. If I had one to mock up in the car, I might have gone with it, but I ordered the Hurst....

Slant and Kiddart you may have something there I've had this thing so long I don't remember the part number.

Sure makes it interesting when you have to shift in the first 70'

Not to be off topic but can you modify the gate on the reverse manual Q-Stick and be able to go from 3rd to N?

Pistol grip quarter stick on my Duster and love it. I've had Mega shifters in the past and i think the Hurst is just made a bit tighter.

I had a forward pattern Q/S with a RMVB for years in my Valiant. You are correct, it is very easy to shift from low to 3rd at an innoportune moment.

Hurst will change the pattern plate for $35 IIRC. I tried to buy just the plate for mine but they would not seel me one since it is welded in.

I have a brand new stealth pro ratchet in the trunk of my car, after messing with it for awhile on my desk I liked it

Couldnt bring myself to cut up the console in my car and now the stock shifter grew on me

I use the hurst pro matic. It works well no 2 handed lock out and its a ratchet forward or reverse. You lift the handle to go to reverse then pull it down into nuetral and ratchet the gears from there. then ratchet back to nuetral lift to reverse and park.. the only thing i dont like is the cover. I had a custom billet pistol grip made for it and I love the set up now!
