lining up the spot on the cam sensor with the tip of the rotor with the crank at tdc should get it close enough to run just fine. The only easy more accurate way is with a scanner. None of this changes timing, turning the distributer only makes sure the rotor is pointing close enough to the correct terminal when the voltage spikes to fire a plug and it helps make sure the fuel injector is fired at the back of the closed valve, either one of thease parameters can change quite a bit and still be ok.
