new way is to use Drb to sync dist-try this old way-clean balancer 1st so you can see all marks very good-align zero on balancer to Tdc-remove cap and see that rotor is pointing to #1 tower on cap-if so,remove distributor and install new dist,making sure new position is as close to old position as can be-rotate balancer 17.5 degrees until v8 mark lines up w/Tdc mark on cover.connect voltmeter red lead to tan wire w/yellow tracer or gray wire and black lead to black wire w/light blue tracer-this is wire from dist and it has to be plugged in.-turn key on and w/voltmeter on volts,rotate dist back and forth until voltmeter switches from zero to 5 volts-stop at transition.when you reach that point-tighten dist-tsb is for 92/93 dodge truck#18-16-92 rev.
